Makeri elected as FCT Youth Network youth leader

Comrade Ibrahim Umar Makeri has been elected as the youth leader of the FCT Youth Network, an umbrella body of the FCT indigenous youth organization.

Announcing the result, the returning officer in the election, which was held amid tight security at the state secretariat of the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) Gwagwalada, on Saturday, Mr. George Sabo Kuje, said Makeri emerge the winner of the election after he defeated two of his opponents, Danjuma Solomon Garda who got 57 votes, Mohammed Nasir Gani, 53 votes and Ismaila Hussaini who got 7 votes.

” I George Sabo Kuje, as the returning officer in this election hereby certified that Ibrahim Umar Maker, having scored the highest number of votes is hereby declared as the winner and returned elected as the youth leader of the FCT Youth Network,” he said.

Also elected, are youth representatives from each area council, which has Umar Rabiu Munya, Abaji area council representative, Dauda Daniel, as representative of Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) Chukwu, Bwari area council, Abubakar Jibril, Gwagwalada area council, Abubakar Dantani Tanko, Kuje area council and Isaac Gambo Jacob, Kwali area council.

Reacting, the newly elected youth of the FCT Youth Network, Comrade Ibrahim Umar Makeri, appreciated the confidence reposed on him by the delegates across the six area councils to vote him to represent the youth of the FCT.

He said he gives glory to God and also appreciated the FCT minister of state, Hajiya Ramatu Tijjani Aliyu for endorsing the FCT Youth Network and creating an atmosphere, that he said has led to a rancor-free election.

He also commended the executive director of the Abuja Original Inhabitants Youth Empowerment Organization (AOIYEO) Commandant Isaac David, for creating the youth network platform, saying the platform will enhance the youth to come together across the 858 communities to speak with one voice.

He pledged to represent the youth of the FCT without any compromise, even as he called on the opponents that lost out in the election to join hands with him so that the government will easily hear the voice of the youth of the FCT.

Our correspondent report that the newly elected youth leader and their representatives will pilot the affairs of the FCT youth for two years.
