A former member Federal House of Representatives, Hon. Duro Meseko from Kogi state has urged Nigerians of all religious faiths to be determined by patriotism and nationalism for the development of the country.
Mesko who responded to our correspondent’s question on the controversial Muslim – Muslin ticket of the APC Presidential candidate, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and his running mate, Shetima Kashim, advised that Nigerians should from now be patriotic to cultivate the culture of truth, understanding, and respect for one another.
He said as a Christian, there is nothing wrong with the Muslim – Muslim ticket, provided that it is geared towards the unity and development of Nigeria.
According to the former Legislator, the Muslim – Muslim ticket is not even an experiment, but a tangible experience that united Nigerians during the 1993 Presidential election when MKO Abiola and Babagana Kingibe won a landslide
“No one can say that Tinubu is a religious fanatic, he has been attending Church programs.
His wife of several years is a Christian and even a senior pastor in Redeemed Christian Church. He had not forced his religion on any member of his family.” Maseko observed.
Mexico, a one-time governorship candidate of the Peoples Progressive Alliance (PPA) in Kogi state, said that Nigerians should not consider the religious background of the candidates, but rather what they have achieved in their respective states when they served as governors.
As controversy continues to rage unabated, Hon. Maseko pleaded with the leadership and entire Northern Christians to demonstrate the good characteristics of the Christian faith to support the All Progressives Congress candidates, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinibu and Shettima Kashim.
He said Nigerians should sacrifice this time round to bury the curable ills of religious, ethnic, and sectional considerations for the nation to move forward.
