The Nasarawa State House of Assembly promised on Thursday to partner with the executive arm towards ensuring effective healthcare delivery in order to improve on the health and standard of living of the people of the state.
Chairman, house committee on health in the state Assembly, Hon Labaran Shafa stated this in Lafia while addressing newsmen after the committee’s meeting with the management of the State Ministry of Health led by its Commissioner, Pharm. Ahmed Baba Yahaya.
Shafa (APC) Toto/Gadabuke explained that the meeting was aimed at addressing grey areas on the activities of Saving One Million Lives (SOML) Programme in the state.
He revealed that the ministry has now been granted permission to commence the implementation of the N1.8 billion Saving One Million Lives intervention programme in the state that was earlier suspended by the House.
“We have met with the management of the state ministry of Health on the need for them to brief us on the implementation of Saving One Million Lives intervention programme in the state.
“Based on the satisfactory explanation offered by the Commissioner for Health and we as committee resolved that the ministry should continue with the implementation of the programme in the state.
“This is in the interest of the health of our people and for the overall development of the state.
“We want to assure the state government of our determination to give the health sector among other sectors the much needed support its deserves, ” he said.
Also speaking, the State Commissioner for Health, Pharm. Ahmed Baba Yahaya appreciated the committee for giving the ministry the opportunity to shade more light on the activities of Saving one Million Lives Intervention Programme in the state.
Baba Yahaya also lauded the committee for its support to various health programmes in the state which he said would go a long way in improving on the health and lives of the people of the state.
The commissioner restated the state government’s commitment to initiate good health policies and programmes that would have direct bearing on the Heath and standard of living of the people of the state.
It would be recalled that on March 17, 2020, the House has directed the state ministry of Health to suspend the utilisation of N1.8billion under the Saving One Millions Lives programme (SOML) pending satisfactory explanation on SOML activities in the state to ensure accountability and good governance.
