Nasarawa Assembly Begin Oversight function, Assures LGAs Of Support To Boost Grassroots Development.

The Nasarawa State House of Assembly, has commenced oversight function of Minsitries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) with an assurance of continued partnership with the executive in order to boost grassroots development across the state.

Hon Mohammed Ibrahim Alkali, the Chairman, House Committee on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs gave the assurance on Monday in Lafia when the Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy Affairs and Community Development appeared before the committee to assess their 2020 budget performance.

He said that effective synergy with the state  government will not only boost grassroots development but would also promote peace and unity across  the state.

Ibrahim Alkali ( APC-Lafia North)  said that the oversight function was not to witch hunt anybody but to assess the budget performance of the ministry .

” We have invited you to know your 2020 budget performance for the year under review as His Excellency, Gov. Abdullahi Sule will present the 2021 budget very soon.

” The oversight function will guide us to add or subtract the budget of the ministry when the governor presents the 2021 budget before the House”.

Hon Ibrahim Alkali also assured of the committee’s readiness to give the local government system in the state the topmost priority its deserves.

He has commended the ministry for achieving over 55 percent budget performance  despite the outbreak of COVID-19.

Earlier, Hon Yusuf Aliyu Turaki, the Commissioner for the Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy Affairs and Community Development appreciated the committee for being up and doing in supporting the activities of the ministry and called for its sustenance.

He has assured of their commitment to continue to initiate good policies and programmes that would have direct bearing on the lives of the local government staff and people at the grassroots.

The  commissioner, however, said that the outbreak of COVID-19  has affected the ministry’s activities for  the year under review, adding that despite the pandemic, the ministry has achieved over 55 percent budget performance.
