Nasarawa Assembly Calls for a takeoff of College of Nursing and Midwifery, Lafia.

Nasarawa State House of Assembly Committee on Health has advocated for the quick takeoff of the College of Nursing and Midwifery, Lafia.

This, the committee said, was to produce more health manpower and enhance efficiency in the state health sector.

Hon Usman Labaran Shafa, the Chairman of the committee made the advocacy when the management of the School of Nursing and Midwifery, Lafia, and the College of Health Science and Technology Keffi appeared before the committee on its 2022 budget performance.

Shafa who is the member representing Toto /Gadabuke said a bill for the upgrade of the school to Colleg of Nursing and Midwifery, Lafia has since been passed by the state assembly into law and assented to by Gov. Abdullahi Sule, hence the need of the committee’s call to that effect to meet up with the purpose of the all-important law passed by the house.

He has assured of the committee’s continued determination to support the health agencies and the Executive to succeed.

” We will continue to support you considering the importance of health education to the state and the society in general

” As a wealthy nation is a healthy nation,” he said

He has commended the management of the schools for improving their revenue generation.

The chairman also commended Gov Abdullahi Sule for giving adequate attention to the health sector and called for its sustenance.

Earlier, the Principal of the school of Health Mr. Zari Solomon appreciated the committee for passing into law a bill for the upgrade of the school to College status.

He has also commended Gov. Sule for signing the bill for the upgrade of the school to college.

The principal, however, said that some major challenge of the school is inadequate releases of funds, renovation of structures among others

The committee while attending to the management of the College of Health, Science and Technology, Keffi, was led by its Provost, Dr. Suleiman Muhammad who appreciated the committee for supporting its activities.

He has assured the committee of their readiness to continue to maintain standards due to the importance of health education to human and societal development.

The Provost enumerated some of their challenges including inadequate releases and low overhead costs among others.
