Nasarawa State House of Assembly Committee on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs on oversight function, was on Monday received by the Chairman, Karu Local Government Council, Hon. Akala Samuel Gajere

Welcoming the committee members to Karu, Akala said as a true democrat, he adheres strictly to the principle of separation of powers, which has enabled the cordial working relationship between the executive and the legislative arm of the council in Karu.

The Council Boss who commended the Governor of Nasarawa state, Engr. Abdullahi A Sule, for allowing Local Government Councils to operate freely without interference from the state, said the financial autonomy granted council areas is evidenced in the number of people oriented projects and programmes recorded in Karu within the two years of his administration.

Akala added that his decision to rebuild the legislative chamber in Karu into a state of the art facility for legislative business in the Council, is to raise the bar and set a standard that allows only competent hands to be engaged by the people in the business of making laws for the progress and development of Karu in consonant with the cardinal principle of his administration.

He said the policy of the administration is anchored on service and accountability, pointing out that the frequent oversight by the house committee has kept Council Chairmen on their toes, which has enhanced transparency and accountability in the administration of local governments in the state.

Chairman of the Committee, , Hon. Mohammed Alkali Ibrahim, commended the laudable achievements in terms of projects and programmes recorded by Hon. Akala in Karu Local Government Area within the two years of his administration.

He said as a committee of the state house of assembly, they are committed to strengthening the local government administration to allow development thrive at the grassroots, disclosing that the ongoing law being promulgated by the state Assembly is to allow for a permanent and pensionable office of Clark of the Legislative Council.
