Nasarawa Assembly lauds Women For their Advocacy Against Gender-Based Violence

Nasarawa State House of Assembly has promised to support the Hope Foundation of the State First Lady, Hajiya Silifat Abdullahi Sule in its relentless fight against Gender-Based Violence ( GBV) in the state.

This, the House said, was to protect women and girls’ children against all forms of violence to build an egalitarian society for peace and progress to thrive.

Rt. Hon Ibrahim Balarabe Abdullahi, the Speaker of the House gave the assurance during the State First Lady 16 days Activism Campaign Against Violence to the State House of Assembly today in Lafia.

Balarabe Abdullahi, who was represented by Hon Daniel Ogazi, the Deputy Majority Leader of the House said that violence against women and girls has affected their lives negatively and the development of the society hence the need for all hands to be on deck to end the menace.

” We want to commend Her Excellency in her fight against rape and all forms of violence in the state.

” Her Excellency’s efforts and continue fighting is to ensure that there is no violence against women and girls in the state.

” We are happy with her initiative and movement.

” We will give you all the legislations and other necessary support to end violence against women and girls in the interest of peace and for the overall development of the state,” he said.

Balarabe Abdullahi called on security agencies to bring perpetrators of rape and other forms of violence against women to book to serve as a deterrent to others.

Earlier, Hajiya Silifat Abdullahi Sule, the founder of Hope Foundation and First Lady of the State said that the campaign aimed to say no to violence against women in the state.

Hajiya Silifat who spoke through the wife of the State Deputy Governor Mrs. Tosim Akabe solicited for the support of the assembly and other stakeholders to end violence against women in the state.

The Governor’s wife has restated her continued commitment and campaign against violence against women and girls in the state.

It will be reported that the campaigners which had in their midst the State First Lady Haj. Silifat Abdullahi Sule, Wife of the State Deputy Governor Mrs. Tosim Akabe and wife of the Speaker of the State Assembly Haj. Maryam Balarabe Abdullahi among other women carried placards with different inscriptions such as “say no to violence against women and girls” ” prevent and response to Gender-Based Violence ( GBV),” Silifat Stands against GBV” among others.
