Comrade Danlami Nuhu Dauda, the Incumbent Chairman, Parliamentary Staff Association of Nigeria (PASAN) Nasarawa State Chapter has lost his second term bid to be the Chairman of the association for the next four years.

Announcing the result of the association’s election held at the complex of the Nasarawa State House of Assembly in Lafia today, the Chairman of the electoral committee, Mr Dogara Ahmed Egye declared Comrade Suleiman Safiyanu Oshafu, Confidential Secretary in the office of the Speaker as winner after scoring 27 votes against the incumbent PASAN Chairman, Comrade Danlami Nuhu Dauda, who got 14 votes.

” For the office of Chairmanship, Comrade Suleiman Oshafu scored 27 votes, Comrade Danlami Nuhu Dauda scored 14 votes.

“By the power confirmed on me as the Chairman of the Electoral Committee, I hereby declared Comrade Suleiman Oshafu as New PASSAN Chairman after scoring the highest number of votes cast.

“Comrade Oshafu is hereby returned elected and declared winner,” he said.

The chairman also declared Martha Danladi and Abe Danjuma John as new PASAN Social Welfare and Ex-Officio respectively.

” For the position of Social Welfare, Comrade Martha Danladi scored 33 votes, pheobe Caleb scored 9 votes.

” For the position of Ex-Officio, Abe Danjuma John scored 27 votes, Comrade Amina Osuza scored 15 votes.

” I hereby declared Comrade Martha Danladi as winner for the position of Social Welfare and Comrade Abe Danjuma for the position of Ex-officio,” he said

Other positions elected unopposed included Vice Chairman- Comrade Aluma Joseph Peter, Secretary- Comrade Benjamin Affi, Assistant Secretary- Mohammed Usman Ozaki, Financial Secretary- Comrade Joshua Luka, Treasurer- Hadiza Saeed, PRO -Philip Akoshi, Auditor- Obadiah Emmanuel, Legal Adviser- Barr. Safiya Balarabe, Social Secretary- Gladys Makama, Woman Leader- Sa’datu Mohammed Egye.

The electoral committee chairman commended the staff for conducting themselves peacefully and orderly during and after the election.

On her part, Comrade Umar Yusuf Kasim, PASSAN National Treasurer, who supervised and observed the election said that the exercise was free and fair.

” The election was fair, transparent and free and we thank God for the successful conduct of the election,” he said.

Yusuf Kasim called on the new officials to operate open door policy in order to promote unity and peace among members and for the overall development of the association.

Responding, Comrade Suleiman Safiyanu Oshafu, the new Chairman promised to prioritize the welfare of its members, when finally sworn in.

” I have three agenda for the union, one is unity of the staff, staff welfare and progress of the association,” he said.

The newly elected PASAN Chairman assured of their readiness to work in collaboration with the management of the assembly to take the House to the greater height.

Oshafu appreciated members for the confidence reposed in them and promised not to fail while discharging their responsibilities.

The new chairman also extended hands of friendship to his opponent for the unity, peace and progress of the association.

It would be reported that the election had in attendance, Mr Ego Maikeffi Abashe , Clerk of the House, Alh. Alkali Haruna- DFA, Hajiya Hadiza Musa Bako- DAS, Barr. Uji Obiri- Director, Legal among other staff of the association.
