…..As assembly interface with finance commissioner, PS, AG, director budget.

The Nasarawa State House of Assembly says that the state government was seeking the House approval to adjust and spend unutilized and idle funds totalling N8.3billion within the 2022 budget in other active areas for more infrastructural development.

Hon Aliyu Dogara, the Chairman, House Committee on Finance and Appropriation disclosed this while briefing newsmen after its meeting with the Commissioner for Finance, Mr Daniel Agyeno and Mr Zakka Yakubu, the State Accountant General in Lafia today.

Dogara said that the government want to adjust and spend idle funds within the 2022 budget on some capital projects in order to improve on the lives of the people of the state.

According to him, the government need House approval to adjust 2022 budget from unspend allocations to areas the money will be utilized.

” We had an interactive session with the State Commissioner for Finance and Accountant General regarding the 2022 amended appropriation bill sent to the House by His Excellency, Engr. Abdullahi Sule for our consideration and approval.

” The essence of the meeting is for the government officials, that is the Commissioner for Finance and Accountant General to make clarifications on the amended appropriation bill transmitted to the House by His Excellency.

” As this is not a supplementary budget but an adjustment within the 2022 budget as the appropriation bill size remain the same, ” he said.

” The state government need the House approval to adjust and spend idle N8.3billion in some unutilized items.

” In the 2022 budget, there are some economic codes that have been exhausted, likely to be over spend before the end of the year.

” And there are also some items not used or utilized within the budget, hence the need of the proposed adjustment by the government.

The Chairman assured of the committee’s readiness to give the bill attention and speedy consideration to enable the government provide the much dividends of democracy to the people of the State.

The meeting with the House Committee on Finance had in attendance the State Commissioner for Finance Daniel Agyeno and his Permanent Secretary Emmanuel Alidzi, State Accountant General Zakka Yakubu as well as Director Budget Akolo Peters.

It woul be reported that the House on Nov.2, 2022 passed into first and second reading A Bill for a Law to Authorize the Issue Out of the Consolidated Revenue Fund of The State ( 2022 Amended Appropriation) of the sum of N110, 849, 945, 879.49 for the Services of Nasarawa State Government to Complement for the Period Commencing from 1st January, 2022 and Ending 31st, December, 2022.

The Speaker committed the bill to the House Committee on Finance and Appropriation to work on the bill and report back to the House on November, 7th, 2022.
