“…Hails Gov. Sule’s reform in the health sector…”

Nasarawa State House of Assembly Committee on Health has commended Gov. Abdullahi Sule for transforming the health sector in the state.

This, the Committee said, was evident in the improvement on the health status of the people of the state.

Hon Usman Labaran Shafa, the Chairman of the committee gave the commendation when the management of Ministry of Health, College of Health, Science and Technology Keffi,
Nasarawa State Hospital Management Board and Nasarawa State Drugs and Supply Management Agency appeared before the committee on their 2023 budget defense today in Lafia.

The committee also commended Gov. Sule for providing free medical outreach to communities across the state.

” His Excellency, Engr Abdullahi Sule is doing well in the health sector.

” Ours is to give him all the legal backing and necessary support to succeed.

” This is to improve on the health standard of our people,” he said

Shafa also commended the managements of heath institutions in the State for being up and doing in meeting the general health demands of the people.

He urged them to continue to adhere strictly to the ethics of the health profession in the interest of the health of the people of the state

The Chairman assured of the committee’s readiness to synergize and support them to succeed at all times.

Dr Ibrahim Alhassan, Director of Public Health, Ministry of Health led the ministry’s delegation to defend the 2023 budget.

Dr Alhassan commended the committee for its support to the ministry and appealed for upward review of the budget to include provision for the purchase of vehicles for College of Nursing and Midwifery, Lafia and more funds for routine inspection to health facilities and other health activities in the State.

Also, the Acting Provost of the College of Health, Science and Technology, Keffi Mr Suleiman Muhammed appreciated the committee for its intervention towards the development of the college where Hon Shafa called for full autonomy of the institution.

Hon Shafa said that the law establishing the College has made provision for the full autonomy where the institution will be managed by a substantive Provost and other principal staff as well as recruitment, promotion and discipline among others.

Also, Nasarawa State Hospital Management Board led by its Chief Medical Director ( CMD), Dr Edego Egba while defending its budget hailed Gov. Sule and the committee for prioritizing the health sector in the state.

He also made a case for the upward review in some economic codes in the budget to include provision for the upgrade of some hospitals to General Hospitals, Primary Health Care to Comprehensive Primary Health Care for effective and efficient health care service delivery in the state

The Chairman of the Committee, Hon Usman Labaran Shafa assured them of the committee’s readiness to look into their demands for improved health status of the people of the state.

Similarly, the Nasarawa State Drugs and Supply Management Agency, led by Peter Elawoni, a director in the agency also appeared before the committee where he appealed for more support from the assembly in the area of funds release for the overall development of the agency.

The Chairman of the committee, Hon Shafa promised to assist the agency to succeed in its responsibility of rendering health care services to the people of the state.
