NSG seeks collaboration with international health institutions as Foreign Medical experts performs heart surgery at FMC Keffi

Nasarawa State Government Solicits more collaboration with health institutions….as foreign medical experts performs open heart surgery on children at FMC Keffi.

Nasarawa State Government has sued for more collaboration with international organizations in its quest of providing health care service to the people of the State.

Governor Abdullahi Sule, made the pledge while interfacing with a team of foreign doctors from United states who are currently performing free open heart surgery to children, at the Federal Medical Centre, Keffi, Sunday.

The free open heart surgery embarked opon by U.S based Hospitals for Humanity, is a non-profit organization designed to decrease barriers to healthcare especially for people living in developing countries, has performed the surgeries using its foreign volunteer surgeons alongside supporting experts like intensivists, anesthetists, pediatric cardiologists, nurses, and others from several countries, including the US, UK, Saudi Arabia India and Nigeria.

Governor Abdullahi Sule, who was represented by his deputy, Doctor Emmanuel Agbadu Akabe, commended the tireless efforts of both the foreign doctors and the management of the Federal Medical Centre Keffi for their Pediatric Open-heart Initiative works with Nigerian tertiary hospitals, and called for more collaboration with other organizations so as to complement government’s effort in healthcare delivery.

The Governor said he was impressed with the facilities onĀ  ground at the Hospital, and stressed that government will support the health organization to enable them succeed just as he said the programme, being a specialized one cannot go round the state at the same time but rather the patients with peculiar problem if identified in any part of the state would be taking to FMC Keffi for treatment.

Earlier, the Chief Medical director, Federal Medical centre, Keffi, Doctor Yahaya Baba Adamu, said the surgery was the second phase which started on 22 of April, this year and will last for one month, maintaining that heart surgery is a complex and multy disciplinary aspect of medicine that required a well trained doctors to handle it, and thanked the organization for accepting to conduct open heart surgery to children of Nasarawa State.

On their parts, the executive director, Hospitals for Humanity, Myna Shegos, from Geogia, United States and doctor Zeena from Indian, disclosed that the organization has been in Nigeria since 20214, and has been operating in Garki General Hospital, Abuja; JUTH, Plateau; Ibom Specialist Hospital and University of Uyo Teaching Hospital; Akwa Ibom State, focussed on providing free pediatric open-heart surgeries and cardiac catheterization to children, calling for support to enable them succeed.

The Deputy Governor alongside the medical team lead by the CMD FMC Keffi, Yahaya Baba Adamu, moved round the theatre to inspect the facilities where nine successful surgery have been conducted as at the time of this report.
