Members of PDP in Edo State have called for the suspension of the chairman of PDP in Edo State, Dr. Anthony Aziegbemi, for being an accomplice of the state governor in the crisis affecting the party in the state.
They also accused him of being complicit in the illegalities that the governor has been trying to perpetuate in the party without success.
It will be recalled that last year, Dr. Anthony Aziegbemi was suspended over allegations of gross misconduct by brewing unnecessary tension and disunity among party members in the state in a manner akin to bringing the party into disrepute.
Although the suspension was lifted after he served the one-month mandatory term, it was likely the chairman was blackmailed into working with the governor who is bent on hijacking the structure of the party by force ever since.
Dr. Anthony Aziegbemi has constituted himself to be part of the illegalities being perpetrated against the party since the time Governor Godwin Obaseki came up with the idea of harmonization, which is unknown to the constitution of the party. The embattled state party chairman deliberately received what was then called a ‘harmonization list of excos’ from some Local Government Areas even when he knew such was illegal.
The most recent of his numerous malfeasance was the conduct of illegal primaries across the state where he forwarded such names to the National body of the party even when there was a valid court injunction by the Federal High Court sitting in Abuja against the process that led to the primaries. That not being enough, he also forwarded names of illegal national delegates to the nation during the just concluded presidential primaries although they were thrown out since the party was keen on obeying the Abuja Court order and the Appeal Court ruling in Benin City.
It was alleged that tags meant for the authentic delegates were ceased by Dr. Aziegbemi and were not given to Edo State delegates loyal to the Chief Dan Orbih’s camp. Officials had to source from other states whose delegates were not present to be given to them to enable them to vote.
It is based on these illegalities that angry members in the state are calling for his suspension and expulsion from the party to bring the desired peace and unity to the party going toward the 2023 elections.
