The Abia state Governorship candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, at the just-concluded 2023 general elections, Professor Gregory Ibe, has recounted some of the actions and inactions of the political class which heralded before and during the recently-conducted polls by the Independent National Electoral Commission.
He also expressed serious concerns about the threat posed to the nationhood by such manifestations, pointing out high degree insensitivity, unhealthy parochialism and destructive tribalism.
Ibeh, the Chancellor and Proprietor of Gregory University Uturu in Abia state, was baring his mind, against the recent outcome of the just-conducted 2023 general elections across the Nigeria federation by the Independent National Electoral Commission between february 25th and March 18th, 2023.
He frowned the unfortunate drift to the selfish politics of personal interest and the dangerous resort to the antics of divide and rule, drawing the attention of Nigerians to be awakened to the looming danger of destroying the ethno-religious building blocks which he asserted, the founding fathers and heros past deployed as tripod to balance in fairness and equity the equilibrium of the country.
According to him, “both at the macro level of state politics where rotation of crucial positions is based on equity driven power sharing charters and at the macro strata of federal government where ethno-religious consideration have always guided our leadership selection processes, it is clear that the authors of our democracy desire a nation founded on the strong pillars of inclusiveness and accomodations”.
Continuing, Ibe, a professor of entrepreneurial studies, therefore, advised the government of the All Progressives Congress in the country to do everything possible to reunite Nigerian people by prosecuting all-inclusive government in the country.
“That twenty-four years into the life span of the fourth Republic in Nigeria, the incoming administration must do away with the traditional ‘winner takes it all’ style of governance by adopting the more productive unity government concept, which provides opportunities for injection of non-partisan technocrats and members of other political parties to participate in the act of public service”.
He called on the incoming government of the new Nigerian-elect, Ashiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu to policies that will create the enabling atmosphere for reunion and reconciliation even as Nigerians look forward to a new season of national rebirth.
Recall that the Independent National Electoral Commission had declared the All Progressives Congress presidential candidate, Bola Tinubu, as the president-elect of Nigeria after a concluded presidential election which took on Saturday 25th february, 2023 across the federation.
Tinubu, a former Lagos State governor, was declared the president-elect after he polled 8,794,726 votes to win the 2023 presidential election.
He won the february 25th concluded 2023 presidential election ahead of other contenders- the Peoples Democratic Party candidate, Atiku Abubakar; the Labour Party candidate, Peter Obi; and the New Nigeria Peoples Party candidate, Rabiu Kwankwaso.
