Senator Philip Aduda representing the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) has distributed three metric tones of fertilizer free to farmers across rural communities of the six area councils.
Speaking during the flagg-off of the distribution of the fertilizer in Bwari area council on Tuesday, Senator Aduda, was represented his special assistant on special duties, Samuel Danjuma Shekwolo, said the gesture was aimed at assisting the rural farmers to boosting their farming activities this year.
He said the distribution of the fertilizer which cut across the six area councils, was aimed to encourage farming and enhance bumper harvest during this year’s farming season.
He said since he assumed the national assembly, he has always given utmost priority to Agricultural sector through supporting the local farmers with farm inputs such as fertilizer, water pump machine, agro chemicals, sprayers as well as empowering of the farmers across his constituency.
Senator Aduda, noted that agriculture is one of the major occupation of the people of the FCT, hence, he deemed it necessary to support the farmers with necessary farm inputs in order for them enjoy bumper during harvest period.
According to him, a committee has been put in place ensure strict distribution of the commodity to the farmers at the grasroots, even as he cautioned the beneficiaries against selling the commodity.
Also speaking, the Sarkin Noma of Bwari, Zakka Sunday, appreciated senafor Aduda for always identifying with the rural farmers across the FCT every farming season.
He assured that the fertilizer will be distributed judiciously,even as he warned against selling the commodity to middle men.
On his part, the chairman of Bwari area council, Hon John Gabaya, commended Senator Aduda for his constant support to rural farmers with farm inputs across the FCT.
He noted that the timely distribution of fertilizer to the rural farmers across the FCT by Senator Aduda will enhance and encourage the farmers to engaged fully in this year’s farming season.
The chairman, who said his administration was also making arrangements to procure fertilizer in order to rural across the council, cautioned beneficiaries against selling the commodity to middle men.
He urged them to ensure they use the fertilizer for the purpose it was meant for in order to ensure food availability this year not only in the council, but across the FCT.
