Stockholm Syndrome: Governor Godwin Obaseki and His Media Bandits.

Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki

Ukato Thommy, Edo.

Used and dumped, emotionally bruised and relegated yet these invisible mental shackles have continued to allow their political hallucinations to persist and like ancient gladiators, social media is their Colosseum. Like raging bulls, they collide, muddling and ruffle feathers with anyone who dares point out the ills of the heinous maladministration, ineptitude and governmental comatose of the Godwin Obaseki tormentors “rulership” in Edo State. Isn’t it sad?

Yes! As sad as it is, these media charlatans are not well. They deserve our pity and help because for one to barefaced defend an odious reality where one man has held the state hostage in retrogression, a situation they are also grossly suffering from, something so pellucid that even someone with visual infirmity could see is a clear case of a variant of the psychological imbalance called Stockholm Syndrome in which the victim becomes sympathetic, defends, some even fall in love and make excuses for the actions of his/her adoptor, abuser, oppressor or captor.

How best do you explain a situation where a sane human will enter his house laboriously through flooded and dilapidated roads which have been repeatedly earmarked for “audio” construction severally, having to bear harrowing gridlock for hours and yet come online to fight, insult critics and defend the governor’s ghost road projects? How do one defend something and policies he/she is massively suffering from? One that is inimical to his/comfort and progress…?
Only one explanation… Stockholm Syndrome!

Moreso, these media bandits were the marshals that thronged the political field, popularized the inane “4+4!, Torgba!” slogans, bullied the opposition online, went violent on the political tuff, rubished the personality of Governor Obaseki’s benefactor/former Governor, Adams Oshiomhole. They sacrificed time and energy, blood and sweat across the 18 local governments, decamped with him to the party, PDP, which they once said was a pariah and paralytic. Obaseki got the pyrrhic victory through propagandists sentiments popularized by these die-hard media boys and girls looking for peanuts yet when it was time for reward and recognition, Governor Obaseki, in his usual fastidious and ungrateful nature abandoned them despite many that I know, having the requisite experience and qualifications to handle the very positions he gave to persons who don’t even have voters card, never voted nor worked or contributed to his reelection.

Sadly, some of these abandoned Loyalist/Media warriors are still defending his “paper policies” almost two years into his second term as Governor after a wasteful first term. It’s instructive to mention here that these defences are coming for a Governor that has since lost the public sentiments that garnered sympathetic votes for him in the last gubernatorial elections. This shift is coming on heels of deflated hopes and belief in him and his style of brutish, antagonistic and bullish governance owing to how he has conducted himself thus far coped with the lack of visible dividends promised hence it’s only pitiable to see these sets of delusional “barbarians” still screaming their voices to hoarse in his defence.

If these people were on the payroll of the Governor and get paid for their nastiness, for being nuisances online, it won’t be a concern to me but I know for a fact that many haven’t gotten a dime since after the elections and their subsequent abandonment. Only a few get crumbs from the table of some in the Governor’s aides. It’s sad because they could can better. It’s to this extent that I call for help on behalf of these Media miscreants. They need counselling and psychological care for it could be a case of Stockholm syndrome.
