177 Guards Battalion Organizes West African Social Activities (WASA) in 2024

I77 Guards Battalion awards officers for their gallant commitment ....As 2024 WASA wrapped up in style By Roseline Okafor, Nasarawa State. In a bid to ensure officers of the Nigeria Army perform their primary responsibility diligently with courage, the 177 guards battalion Shittu Alao Barracks Keffi, Nasarawa State, has awarded it's officers and men of the Battalion who distinguished themselves towards providing security of life and property of the people. The award presentation was done during the 2024 West African social Activities (WASA), held at the battalion parade ground had in attendance dignitaries from all walks of life including that the deputy governor of Nasarawa state, Dr. Emmanuel Agbadu Akabe and the commander guards brigade of the Nigerian Army, Major general Onasanya. Declaring the ceremony open, the commanding officer, 177 guards battalion, Lt. Col. AB Inuwa, said the event was held annually to bring the officers together and it is a long time inherited Nigerian Army tradition conducted to mark and celebrate the unit end of the year operational and training activities. "I wish to tell you that this event, is also serve as a means of uniting officers, soldiers and their families to appreciate the diversified cultural heritage of the nation in a bid to promote unity among troops". The special guest at the event, Governor Abdullahi Sule, represented by his Deputy, Doctor Emmanuel Agbadu Akabe, commended the Nigerian Army for their selfless service and dedication towards combating crimes in Nasarawa state and beyond, calling on them to sustain the tempo. As part of state government commitment of ensuring that welfare of security agencies in the state are taking care of, and for the sustenance of hosting the west African social activities (WASA), the Governor announced the donation of six (6) million naira towards that direction. Apart from awarding the officers, the 177 guards battalion also honoured some traditional rulers to include the Andoma of Doma, Ogah Onawo and the Bassa traditional ruler, Chief Tukura, Among others. Cultural troupes from different tribes thrilled the audience with dances.
