Teachers Must Be Treated As First Class Citizens – Says Kuje Chairman

The Chairman of Kuje Area Council, Abdullahi Suleiman Sabo, has said that teachers at all levels must be considered and treated as first class citizens since they are the roots of every profession.

Sabo, stated this at the official opening ceremony of a two weeks training workshop organized by the Universal Basic Education Board (UBEB) with theme “Strengthening Mathematics And Science Education (SMASE) held at Government Secondary School (GSS) in the council on Wednesday.

He said as a trained classroom teacher by profession, he solidly believed that when teachers are been taking good care of, they have no reasons to avert their responsibilities.

He said it was on that premise that since the assumption of his administration in office, he has never denied teachers their entitlements, saying he has always ensured payment of teachers promotion arrears, annual increment and other incentives.

The chairman, therefore, directed the education secretary to release 2019/2020 teachers promotion examination for immediate implementation.

Also speaking, the secretary for Local Education Authority (LEA) of the council, Yunusa Zakara, commended the council chairman for his efforts towards ensuring payment of teachers promotion arrears and other entitlements.

He further lauded the council for raising the standard of the education in the area, saying the issue of challenge of shortage of teachers has also been addressed as a result of deployment of teachers to various rural schools in the area.
