Toto LG Chairman, Hon Aliyu Tashas orders regular clearing of blocked drains to check flooding

Executive Chairman of Toto local government area of Nasarawa State, Honorable Aliyu Abdullahi Tashas, has ordered regular clearing of all drains and other water channels in Toto town and its environ to check the perennial flooding of the council headquarter.

The Chairman gave the directive when he led some of his team and appointees comprising Vice Chairman of the council, Hon Abubakar Haruna Kwanakis, Supervisory councilor for Works & Housing, Hon. Danlami Usman Dantsoho, (Garkuwa Toto), Chairman of All Progressives Congress, APC, in Toto LG, Alhaji Shuaibu Ahmed Katuka, SSA, on Agriculture, Hon. Idris Irubuke, SSA on Security Matters, Officer Shuaibu Yakubu retired and SSA Media & Publicity office of the Executive Chairman, Yahaya Idris Toto, said the drains in major roads and streets around the council headquarter is worrisome and called on residents to ensure regular clearing of drains.

The affected areas are Kofa, Madugu streets and som link roads and streets around the Toto town.

Tashas, who disclosed his administration commitment to check the worrisome and devastating flooding problem in Toto town and other areas, said that the present APC government was determined to find a permanent solution to the ravaging flood.

“There are good drains and water channels in Toto, Umaisha and Gadabuke districts its environs constructed by my administration. I am fully aware that constant blocking of these drains and channels was the major cause of the flooding.”

The Chairman, therefore, directed regular clearing of these drains to channel the water to the appropriate channels.

He urged residents to ensure they clear their drainage in order to ensure free flow of water to avoid flooding in their various streets.

The Chairman has also thanked the residents for their peaceful coexistence and sought for their support to enable him succeed in his adminiatration.

Also speaking, the Supervisory councilor for Works and Housing, Hon. Danlami Usman Dantsoho (Garkuwa) said the Executive Chairman has asked him to be diligent and committed to the directive despite challenges that may be faced in the cause of the assignment.

According to him, the executive directive will not only be carried out effectively but will ensure it is been enforce just as he engaged over 100 workers, got some heavy duty equipment, including pickups, pay loaders and tippers for easy and fast evacuations.”

“The Chairman is working everyday to make sure that the ravaging flooding waters have minimal effect on the people and other attract other development to the council.

Global Times Nigeria learnt that Toto residents suffered so much as a result of flooding whenever it rains. Property were destroyed, roads and streets rendered impassable, even in some cases people cannot leave their houses.

On his part, Vice Chairman Toto LG, Hon. Abubakar Haruna Kwanakis described the council boss as a man of action and always disposed to reducing to thle bearest minimum the pains of the people.

Kwanakis said the Chairman’s commitment to achieve the set goal, residents’ attitude towards the environment must change. They must stop dropping waste into the drains and must ensure they clear their surroundings regularly and evacuate the debris generated to approved dump site.”

Our correspondent report that hundreds of residents came out to applauded the Chairman’s commitment to the development of Toto and it’s environ.
