Tradition: Princess Maryam emerges new Magajiyan of Toto in Nasarawa state, To share traditional powers with the “King”.
A new Magajiyan (Traditional Woman Leader) of Toto in Nasarawa state has been appointed and officially installed by the Ohinoyi Ogye, His Royal Highness Alhaji Muhammad Umar Azaki on Saturday 2nd September 2022.
Princess Maryam Ibrahim a 39 years old house wife from the Onyohu ruling house, was unanimously selected by the four traditional ruling houses of Toto and was subsequently ratified by the Ohinoyi Ogye in accordance with the laid down tradition of the Egbira people of Toto Chiefdom.

The Traditional Woman Leader for Toto has as part of her responsibilities share some traditional powers with the Ohinoyi in Council, control some spiritual and traditions of the community, peace, unity, ensure discipline among men and women and control market women and costs of foods in the markets.
His Royal Highness, the Ohinoyi Ogye, Alhaji Muhammad Umar Azaki, while crowning the new Magajiyan, charged her to not only maintain the sanctity of the office of Magajiyan, but improve on it in accordance with the tradition and modernisation.
His Royal Highness Azaki also urged the Magajiyan to always be fair and just in the course of performing her duties without fear or favour.

Traditionally, the Magajiyan is also a member of the defense Council of the community and traditional King makers, requiring her closeness to the King (Ohinoyi) as well as the people in the community.
The coronation was preceded by a reception at the ancient Toto market square, where traditional and cultural dances, songs and other historical activities were displayed to the admiration of the old and the youths.
Egbira traditional rulers, socio-cultural organisations and people from all walks and life graced the occasion.
