The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) senate caucus led by the senate minority leader, Senator Phillip Aduda, representing the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) on Sunday, met with the former military president, Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida, IBB, at his hilltop mansion in Minna, Niger state.

Aduda, while speaking during visit, said the senate caucus decided to visit the former military ruler in order to seek for his wise counsel ahead of the 2023 general election in the country.

He described the former military ruler is a father to them, which he said became necessary for them to come and conferred with him on national issues and also discussed with him on the way forward as it relates to the country.

“And interestingly we are approaching the 2023 general elections as we have come here to tap from his wise counsel. In fact, we have benefited immensely from him,” he said.

Also speaking, the senate minority whip, Senator Chukwuka Utazi, said he and his colleagues will apply what the former military rulers has said towards the country’s transition in 2023.

“In fact, we have gotten the best from our interaction with our fathers, former military leader as we shall utilize it in order to ensure a smooth transition in 2023, he said.

However, the deputy minority whip, Senator Danjuma La’a, expressed confidence that the opposition PDP shall take over the mantle leadership of the country come in 2023.

“And what our father had actually told us, we are going to make good use of it, as we shall emerge victorious come in 2023 general elections,” he said.

Responding, former military rulers, Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida, who said he was elated for the visit, also commended for their contributions in nation building.

” I fact, I have always watch your contributions at the national assembly, which I feel very proud that all of you are doing well. And I hope you will all keep it up and I can assure you that whatever is meant for your people, we shall press for it so that it will be given to your people, “he said.

The former ruler, jokingly said” when I become healthy, I will come and campaign for one of you, ” he said amid laughter.

Our correspondent learnt that, the meeting centred on the unity of the country, and some critical issues regarding the party, PDP, which the party’s senate caucus look away forward ahead of the 2023 general elections across the country.
