IDRIS AHMED, LOKOJA.

The 2023 Presidential and National Assembly elections were marred by violence leading to the death of a political thugs at Ayingba in Dekina local government area of Kogi state.

Though only one of the suspected thugs can be confirmed dead, reports from the area said there are four others yet to be discovered who were among those that disrupted the process of election by destroying election materials and snatched ballot boxes at polling units.

According to a source from the area, the thugs not only destroy INEC materials, but some parts of Anyigba, Dekina and Abocho towns were affected in their violent activities

An eye witness one notorious thug, Akaihaba was shot dead while attempting to snatch ballot boxes at Agwudoko area in Anyigba in Dekina local government area.

Also at Udaba-Dekina, ballot boxes were allegedly destroyed by unknown gunmen who were allegedly sponsored by a retired Woman officer from local government in Kogi state.

Reports filtering to Lokoja from Dekina town has it that Tudunwada polling unit has just been destroyed by a sponsored group.

It was gathered that other areas like Egume, Ojikpadala, Abejulo – Egume, Acharu voted peacefully and successfully.
