Kingsley Ohens Reporting
Latest report had it that residents doctors under the aegis of the National Medical Association (NMA), Benin Chapter reportedly boycotted an interactive session with Edo Labour Party Governorship Candidate, Olumide Akpata
The Governorship Candidate was scheduled to have an interactive session with all medical doctors at Doctors House, UBTH Ugbowo on Tuesday, 21st June 2024. The event is to enable him solicit their support ahead of the forthcoming September 21st Guber Election in Edo State.
Despite all the publicity and intensive mobilisation ahead of the event, the doctors failed to show up for the meeting leaving the hall empty and deserted.
Akpata was seen in the Hall looking crest fallen and making frantic calls trying to mobilise Uniben students to fill up the hall in order to avoid embarrassment.
“Only about 12 Doctors came around briefly and left. They were contemplating going to UNIBEN to mobilise Students to save face” an Eye Witness revealed
Feelers indicate that many doctors boycotted the event because they do not fancy his chances in the race and considered it a waste of time to attend such meetings.
A resident doctor in UBTH who spoke on condition of anonymity revealed that it was pointless holding conversations with a candidate who stood no chance in the election and was only being sponsored to waste votes.
