Ex-Benue Gov Ortom denies 2027 Senatorial ambition, labels report “Fabrication”
The camp of the immediate past Governor of Benue State, Chief Samuel Ortom, has dismissed as false a report circulating on social media claiming that he has concluded plans to contest the Benue North-West Senatorial seat in the 2027 general elections.
In a statement issued Friday by Terver Akase, Media Adviser/Consultant to H.E. Chief Samuel Ortom, April 03, 2026., described the claim as an “imaginative piece of fiction” aimed at misleading the public.
According to the statement, although such a report would ordinarily not warrant a response, it became necessary to clarify the situation to prevent unsuspecting members of the public from mistaking falsehood for reality.
The media team emphasized that the narrative being peddled lacks any factual basis.

It was categorically stated that Chief Ortom has no intention whatsoever of contesting any elective position in 2027, stressing that he has made this position clear on several occasions publicly and without ambiguity.
The statement noted that his stance should not be subjected to misinterpretation or distortion.
The former governor, the statement added, remains focused on promoting democratic ideals, strengthening his political party, and providing statesmanlike guidance rather than seeking elective office in the next election cycle.
He also expressed appreciation to his supporters, friends, and party faithful for their concern and goodwill messages following the circulation of the false report.
The public was therefore urged to disregard the claim in its entirety and treat it as a fabrication.
