Edo 2024: Opposition in disarray as Ighodalo’s Manifesto goes viral
By Kingsley Ohens
The opposition political parties in Edo State have been thrown into disarray following the release of the Manifesto of Dr Asue Ighodalo, candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Monday morning.
The Manifesto titled “Pathway to Prosperity for all Edo people”, has since gone viral, rapidly climbing to the top of the trending stories on X.
The document, a robust, well thought-out and detailed plan of action by Ighodalo, spells out clearly where the state is, where it wants to be and how to get there.
The release which coincided with the candidate’s tour of Europe to engage with the Edo State Diaspora Community in Italy, Germany and the United Kingdom, UK, expectedly drew huge applause from indigenes of the state who hailed on it on various social media platforms as a very good document and by far better than any they had ever seen. They also used the opportunity to variously described the candidates of the other major parties as coming far behind Ighodalo in terms of preparedness and competence and capacity.
Speaking with our correspondent in Benin City, Clement Adarighofua, a public affairs analyst, said the other parties and their candidates should go and take a cue or lesson from what Ighodalo has put in the public space for people to see. He said it is the beautiful content that made Ighodalo to confidently invite people to come and read, understand and be familiar with what he has in mind and intend to do for Edo State.
“Honestly, this is more than fantastic. When I got wind of it that the manifesto has been released and I could access it, I said what a man! And truly when I logged in, I wasn’t disappointed.
“You can feel and almost touch Ighodalo talking with you. Very detailed. Full of compassion and a determination to implement it.
” You see him prioritize the well-being of the people of Edo State. Dr. Asue Ighodalo’s the “Pathway to Prosperity for All,” is the real deal. What the other parties need to do is to go and learn one or two things from the Master Strategist. He got this wrapped up firmly and other parties can only struggle to catch up but no way will that happen,” he argued.
Also speaking, a pharmacist along Airport Road, Mrs Rebecca Ashefon, said she was very happy to read about Ighodalo’s commitment to elevate the lives of Edo State residents. She said his plans focus on critical areas such as security, infrastructure, education, potable water, healthcare, sanitation, and food security.
” I like Ighodalo. He is very clear in his manifesto what he wants to do. He said the well-being of Edo State people is the most important thing to him. I believe that is what it should be.
“What of what he said on the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) for poverty, hunger, health, education, gender equality, and water (SDGs 1 to 6) by the year 2030. That is vision. We are already in 2024. It resonates with me. I hope our people will not be fooled or misled by people who don’t have anything to offer them,” she said
Findings revealed that the opposition, particularly, the All Progressives Congress (APC) Campaign Council held an emergency meeting in the GRA, Benin City, on Monday evening on how to deal with the resultant effects of the newly released Manifesto.
As at the time of filing this report, nothing has been heard about the outcome of the emergency meeting.
