Family members and friends of the Labour Party, LP, governorship candidate, Barr. Olumide Akpata has called on the candidate to take a bow out of the gubernatorial race on the grounds of justice, equity, and fairness, to allow the race to be exclusively for the Esans since it is the right thing to do, just as the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, and the All Progressives Congress, APC in the State have done.

According to a family member whose name is withheld for security purposes, “We are worried that Akpata arrogance will further alienate the people than unite them, which is why I think it is necessary to warn Edo people. We don’t want that, and that is why we have severally warned that he should withdraw from the race now”.

Another member of his family who is close to the candidate also spoke on the condition of anonymity. He described Olumide Akpata as “arrogant and with an inflated sense of self-importance,” which he said are not qualities of a good leader, warning that his election would be calamitous for the people.

The source said, “We are worried for him as a family. He is so full of himself and arrogant, a trait that he has always displayed while growing up. As far as Olumide Akpata is concerned, Might is Right, and arrogance means everything to him. It is always himself first before any other. These are not the qualities of a good leader.

“For a leadership position like the governor of the state, you need to listen as much as you speak, but Olumide Akpata is not that patient. He is too arrogant to consider other people’s opinions. Everyone must work together to ensure he doesn’t get the governorship job at Dennis Osadebey House, otherwise, he will be an emperor and slave master who will bully, batter, and silence the voice of the Edo people”.
It would be recalled that the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, had fixed September 21 for the Edo State election. The LP Guber candidate, Olumide Akpata is facing backlash from within and outside his party.

Some political pundits have also called out Mr. Akpata, urging him to restraint from the race, that it’s not yet time for him.

Akpata has many hurdle to cross most especially coming from sectional political party, that Nigerians now view as it’s real enemy.

Akpata was also reported to have enmeshed in controversy on who truly controls the party in Edo State.
