Historic Nomination: Barack And Michelle Obama Endorse Kamala Harris For President
“Going to be historic”: these were the words of Former President Barack Obama and former first lady Michelle Obama when they officially endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris after President Biden’s exit from the 2024 race.
Former President Barack Obama and former First Lady Michelle Obama have endorsed Kamala Harris for president in the forthcoming United States Elections.

Campaign Support: The Obamas vowed to do everything they can to support Harris’ campaign and elect her as president
Timing of Endorsement: The endorsement came after President Joe Biden withdrew from the presidential race and Harris secured the majority of Democratic delegates
Former President Barack Obama endorsed Kamala Harris’ presidential run early Friday, handing the Harris campaign its biggest political endorsement since President Joe Biden backed her on Sunday after dropping out of the race.
In a statement on X, Obama said he and his wife Michelle called Harris “earlier this week” to tell her “we think she’ll make a fantastic President of the United States, and that she has our full support.”
The statement added “we’re going to do everything we can to make sure she wins in November.”

The Harris campaign had released a video of the vice president’s phone call with the Obamas where the former president says “Michelle and I couldn’t be prouder to endorse you and do everything we can to get you through this election and into the Oval Office.”
In the call, the former first lady tells Harris “I am proud of you…this is going to be historic.”
The Obamas had remained the only prominent holdout among Democrats as Harris had already secured support from Biden, Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, House Minority Leader Hakeem Jefferies, former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, former President Bill Clinton and former Secretary of State, Hillary Clinton.
During the call, Harris thanked the former president and first lady, telling them: “Michelle, Barack this means so much to me. I’m looking forward to doing this with the two of you…and getting out there and being on the road…And, and we’re going to have some fun with this, too, aren’t we?”
While Obama endorsing Harris was widely expected, the former president did not reportedly want to rush to avoid making Harris’s nomination look like a coronation.
The former president also reportedly did not want to publicly comment on the race before Biden’s Oval Office address Wednesday night to ensure that the focus remained on his former running mate, who he hailed “one of America’s most consequential presidents.”
Obama’s endorsement negates an argument made by the Trump campaign on Thursday night that the Democrats are unsure about nominating Harris. In a statement to the press, the Trump campaign’s Communications Director Steven Cheung claimed: “There is a strong sense by many in the Democrat Party – namely Barack Hussein Obama – that Kamala Harris is a Marxist fraud who cannot beat President Trump, and they are still holding out for someone ‘better.”
