Urhobo Hall of Fame: Gov Oborevwori honoured with Good Governance Award
…Becomes Distinguished Patron of Association of Urhobo Sons and Daughters
Executive Governor of Delta State, Rt Hon Sheriff Oborevwori, has been honoured and appreciated with Good Governance Award by the Association of Urhobo Sons and Daughters in Federal Civil Service of the Federation, at a glamorous ceremony which took place at Pauline Tallen Banquet Hall, Women Development Centre in Abuja.
The Award which was presented to governor Oborevwori by the Grand Patron of the Association, and Senator representing Delta Central Senatorial District at the 10th Senate, Senator Ede Dafinone, is in recognition of the the good governance strides of the governor, especially in the area of mega infrastructure and socioeconomic development since he assumed office on May 29, last year.
Senator Dafinone commended governor Oborevwori over the ongoing construction of three flyovers at DSC Roundabout, PTI junction, Effurun Roundabout and Enerhen junction, as well as other ongoing projects across the state.
The Distinguished Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, noted that it was and still heartwarming to see construction giant, Julius Berger Nigeria Plc, handling mega projects in some parts of the state, while urging governor Oborevwori to ensure that such projects are replicated across the three senatorial districts.
Senator Dafinone disclosed that President Bola Tinubu inherited ailing economy which necessitated key economic reforms; assuring that the current economic hardship in the country will be short-lived, and that the gains of the reforms far outweighs the hardship Nigerians are going through at the moment.
He commended members of the Association for their strong desire to promote unity, peace and development in Urhobo nation through multifaceted strategies and programmes, emphasizing the need for well meaning sons and daughters in public and private sectors to assist the association financially and morally, so as to enhance grow and greater success.
Accepting the Award, governor Oborevwori who was represented by his Executive Assistant on Media, Mr Igho Akeregha, said his becoming governor of Delta State was by divine grace of God, haven won all 38 lawsuits brought against him by political detractors, from lower Courts to the Supreme Court of Nigeria.
He assured that his administration shall remain focus on building solid and durable infrastructure, which was why he had to engage construction giant Julius Berger Nigeria Plc, to handle all mega projects, including the ongoing construction of three flyovers, pedestrian bridges and walkways so as to decongest traffic and enhance economic growth, efficient transportation of goods and services.
Governor Oborevwori disclosed that the ongoing implementation of his MORE agenda; meaningful development, opportunity for all Deltans, realistic reforms, and enhanced peace and security, is yielding positive results.
He assured that he would always put the people first, use the financial resources of the state to development the three senatorial districts, and to also ensure equity, fairness and open doors for all Deltans.
“Am honoured by this Award coming from all Urhobo Sons and Daughters in Federal Civil Service of the Federation, and in Diaspora.
“I am governor for all Deltans, irrespective of political divide or affiliation. We shall continue to work together for the advancement of our dear state.
“As a proud son of Okpe Kingdom and Urhobo Nation, I believe strongly in the greater unity of Urhobo people at home and abroad. This Association has proven that Urhobo nation is indeed moving forward in terms of unity and development.
“It gladdens my heart that our people across the world recognizes what my administration is doing at this time in Delta State.
“My promise to you today is that I will continue to do more, to prudently manage the state resources for the benefit of all Deltans.
“I will continue to ensure that Delta State is always in the front roll in terms of infrastructure and socioeconomic development, youth, girl child and women empowerment, quality healthcare, qualitative education for our students, boost the agricultural sector, and create the enabling environment for public-peivate partnership, inflow of Foreign Direct Investments, FDI, among others.
“Delta State is moving forward, and it’s important that all Deltans at home and abroad must join efforts with my administration to Advance Delta.
“I commend the genuine efforts being made by the executives and members of Association of Urhobo Sons and Daughters in Federal Civil Service of the Federation, to unit our people, assist one another, promote peace and unity of Urhobo nation, etcetera.
“Keep the flag flying, and as your Distinguished Grand Patron, I will continue do my best to assist the growth of the Association,” governor Oborevwori assured.
Earlier, the National President of the Association, Mrs Voke Alimatu Okolakpa said much has been done to bring together all Urhobo Sons and Daughters in Federal Civil Service in Nigeria and in the Diaspora, noting that the synergy is becoming stronger by the day.

She assured Governor Oborevwori of the group’s unrelenting support through prayers and mass mobilization of the people, disclosing that members of the association will soon transfer individual Personal Voters Card to their respective voting units across Delta State, so as to enable them vote for good governance in subsequent general and local government councils elections.
The highpoint of the event was the Investiture of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta State, as the Distinguished Grand Patron of the Association of Urhobo Sons and Daughters in Federal Civil Service of the Federation, and Diaspora.
