As the Edo State governorship election approaches, tension is rising within the All Progressives Congress (APC) campaign machinery.

Senator Matthew Urohoghide, the Director-General of the APC campaign council in Edo State, has privately expressed his frustration and disappointment to his close associates over the lack of financial support crucial for running an effective campaign.

Sources within the campaign council have revealed that internal discord is at the heart of the funding crisis. The sources say APC leaders in the state have been reluctant to contribute to the campaign fund.

The primary reason cited is the imposition of Senator Monday Okpebholo as the party’s governorship candidate.

Many within the party view Okpebholo as an unqualified choice for the role, leading to widespread dissatisfaction and reluctance to support his candidacy financially.

Senator Urohoghide’s discontent was evident in recent discussions with campaign staff and stakeholders.

He lamented the severe financial constraints faced by the campaign council, which have hindered their ability to mobilize effectively and engage voters.

He was quoted as saying: “It’s extremely disheartening to see how our campaign is suffering due to the lack of support from our own party leaders.

“The financial shortfall is impacting our ability to run a robust campaign and reach out to the electorate effectively.”

Many party members are reportedly upset over what they perceive as a forced candidacy.

Okpebholo’s selection has been controversial, with critics arguing that his leadership credentials are insufficient for the governorship role.

Experts say the ongoing financial difficulties and internal disagreements may pose significant obstacles to the party’s electoral strategy.
