Former Chief Press Secretary to Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, has described the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Monday Okpebholo, as a clown who has reduced governance to a huge joke.
Mayaki’s remarks come after Okpebholo’s 10-minute interview on BBC Pidgin, where he promised to provide Edo people with uninterrupted power supply by merely supplying the transformers and electric poles they need.

Okpebholo exposed his ignorance when asked about his plans for 24-hour electricity and how he intends to achieve it. Confidently, he replied, “Yes, it’s true I promised 24-hour electricity. I can achieve that. I asked a particular question: What is the problem with interrupted power supply? They told me transformers and poles. So, if I can give them transformers and poles, they will have uninterrupted power supply. Who is going to stop the light from the people?”
In a statement, Mayaki responded, “Edo people should be careful about electing Okpebholo as governor – the man whose grand plan to solve all electricity woes by installing a few transformers and poles. According to him, no need for energy experts or policymakers; Okpebholo is here to show us the way.
“For me, it’s the simplicity of it all. While engineers and energy experts spend years studying the complexities of power generation, transmission, and distribution, Okpebholo has cut straight to the heart of the matter. Why bother with the technicalities of power plants, grid management, and energy policies when you can just install more transformers and poles? It’s a wonder no one thought of this sooner.
“With this kind of forward-thinking, it’s easy to see how Okpebholo could revolutionize governance across the board. Healthcare woes? Just build more hospitals and distribute bandages – who needs doctors or medicine? Education challenges? Put up more schools and hand out books -no need to worry about teachers or curricula. And for security, maybe a few more police stations and uniforms will do the trick. After all, who needs a comprehensive plan when you can just throw infrastructure at the problem?
“So for a man of ‘vision’ like Okpebholo, guaranteeing 24-hour electricity is as simple as providing transformers and poles. No more blackouts, no more candles, no more generators buzzing through the night – all thanks to Okpebholo’s no-nonsense approach to problem-solving.
“You can see the kind of candidate the APC is putting forward for governor. Instead of discussing crucial details like generating capacity, distribution networks, metering, and policy frameworks, Okpebholo has reduced governance to a huge joke in front of the BBC.
“In Okpebholo’s world, governance isn’t just a serious responsibility. It’s a grand joke, and we can all now see the disaster that looms ahead.”
