Mysterious Illness claims dozens of lives in Sudan town

The Sudanese Doctors Union announced late on Wednesday that a minimum of 73 people have died from mysterious causes in the Sudanese town of Al-Hilaliya, currently under siege by the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces.

It is one of dozens of villages in eastern El Gezira state that have been attacked since a top RSF commander defected to the army, triggering revenge attacks that have displaced more than 135,000 people.

INEC yields to pressure from Gov. Obaseki and others, postponing collation of Edo guber election results to Sunday, Sept. 22, at 10am.

While shelling and gunfire led to high death tolls in other areas of Gezira, Hilaliya has seen people fall ill with diarrhoea, overwhelming a local hospital, according to reports from the union and three people from the area.
A network blackout enforced by the RSF has made it difficult to determine the exact cause.
