Niger Delta Council of Chiefs Condemns Gov Aide’s Remarks, Apologizes to Senate President Akpabio
….Lauds Ominimini appointment as Special Adviser on NDDC
The leadership of Niger Delta Council of Chiefs has expressed satisfaction with the leadership of Godswill Akpabio in the 10th National Assembly. Senator Akpabio is indeed the President of the Senate in the 10th National Assembly, having been elected to this position in June 2023.

As a former Governor of Akwa Ibom State and Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Akpabio has significant experience related to the Niger Delta region. His leadership has been noted for its political influence, though there have been controversies and accusations regarding his political strategies.
In reaction to Hon Reuben Izeze, Delta State Commissioner for Works, Urban and Highways, making an alleged unwarranted outburst, which does not purportedly reflect the desires of the people of Delta State, Chief Mathias Efe Olowu, National Chairman of the Niger Delta Council of Chiefs and Chief Unyime Ekwere, National Secretary, in a statement on Wednesday, cautioning the Governor’s aide to exercise discretion in his public statements in order to avoid bringing ridicule to the entire Delta State.
He stated that the comment made by Delta State Commissioner for Works, Urban Highways, Hon. Reuben Izeze, should be disregarded as it lacks merit
While lauding the Senate President, the Niger Delta Council of Chiefs noted that the federal government of Nigeria, under the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has played a crucial role in promoting socioeconomic development, peace, and security in Delta State, with far-reaching benefits for the entire South South Region.
Global Times Nigeria reports that the recent tension between Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, representing Kogi Central, and Senate President Godswill Akpabio, revolves around a seating arrangement dispute in the Nigerian Senate. Natasha, formerly considered Akpabio’s “poster girl,” challenged the reassignment of her seat, leading to a heated exchange.
Akpabio ratified the decision, citing Senate protocols, and ordered her removal from the chamber when she refused to conform.

In light of this scenario, the Niger Delta Council of Chiefs, in its official statement, has thrown its weight behind Senate President Godswill Akpabio, praising his leadership as eventful and urging all Nigerians to rally support for the man whose aim is to provide legislation to move Nigeria forward.
The council also expressed its gratitude to His Excellency, Distinguished Senator Chief Godswill Akpabio, for appointing a renowned Niger Delta advocate, Chief Obievwewe Christopher Ominimini, as Special Adviser on NDDC, noting that it is indeed a perfect fit.
