Barrister Abubakar Aliyu Madaki, Chairman of Karu Local Government Council, has presented the 2025 consolidated budget, titled the “Budget of Hope,” to the legislative council for approval.

The budget amounts to 11.5 billion naira and was submitted during a session at the Karu Legislative Council chamber. This move aligns with broader budgetary processes in Nasarawa State, where Karu is located, as the state government has also been engaging stakeholders for its 2025 budget.

According to Barrister Abubakar Aliyu Madaki, Chairman of Karu Local Government Council, the ₦11.5 billion budget serves as a vital tool for governance, designed to cater to the community’s needs through structured governance, effective policy direction, and prudent resource allocation.

Madaki, who said Recurrent Expenditure stands at ₦4.7 billion, accounting for 37.4% of the total, while Capital Expenditure is set at ₦7.215 billion, representing 62.6% of the budget, underscored the urgency of passing the budget to facilitate developmental initiatives in the area.

“By allocating a larger portion of our budget to capital projects, we reaffirm our commitment to sustainable development and the enhancement of public infrastructure. These projects will not only improve living standards but also create employment opportunities and stimulate economic growth across our communities.”

During the session, Majority Leader Adamu Abubakar moved a motion for the budget’s first reading, which was seconded by Deputy Speaker Bako Christopher Madaki.

The Speaker Abdul Malik Abubakar commended the Chairman for the timely presentation of the budget and assured of a speedy passage in accordance with legislative procedures.

“It is important to note that local government councils, as constitutionally recognized entities, enjoy financial autonomy. This independence necessitates that, as legislators, we ensure the proper management of public funds in line with established due processes.”

The Speaker emphasized that local government administration in Nigeria serves as the closest tier of government to the grassroots and should be seen driving integrated rural development and promote both economic and social progress in local communities.
