The eldest son of the Bauchi State governor, Engr Shamsudeen Bala, said the forthcoming 2027 general elections offer an opportunity for his father, Governor Bala Mohammed, to pay back former Vice President, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar for working against his reelection in 2023.

Bala claimed that Atiku, the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in 2023, worked against his father’s re-election after being defeated by the former VP in the party’s presidential primary.

He further alleged without providing evidence that Atiku, despite sharing the same political platform with his father, supported Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate in the Bauchi State governorship election.

“Atiku worked vehemently against my father’s re-election as Bauchi governor in 2023. He mobilized elites who worked against us,” Engr Bala said in a post on X over the weekend in response to another X user, Abdul-Aziz Na’ibi Abubakar.”

Atiku Abubakar, in a X post, pleaded with Governor Mohammed to work together to resolve the internal PDP fracas.

Engr Bala further stated that Atiku would not be readily available for reconciliation with Governor Mohammed, “because we are not considered as respected people who have a role to play.”

In the run-up to the 2023 governorship election in Bauchi State, major political figures from the PDP supported other opposition parties in the election.

The former Waziri Bauchi, Muhammadu Bello Kirfi, was notably removed from his position as a kingmaker in Bauchi Emirate a few months before the election.

Ahmed Mu’azu, an in-law to the former vice president and a former PDP national chairman, was another ally of Atiku who allegedly worked against Governor Bala Muhammed in the state.
