Engr. Bashir Gegu reveals source of wealth, vows to continue helping people

Engineer Muhammed Abubakar Bashir Gegu, the Kogi State Commissioner for Solid Minerals and Natural Resources and APC chieftain, is widely recognized for his generosity and philanthropy. His acts of kindness and support for his people – such as scholarship grants to students, assistance to women, youths, and the elderly-have led many to inquire about the source of his wealth.
Bashir Gegu has a background in chemical engineering and entrepreneurship, and his career spans various political and administrative roles, including as Senior Adviser to the Governor and Chairman of MIREMCO.

He has used his official positions and personal resources to uplift his people, which has earned him several traditional titles, including Ondaki Ireku Igu (Head of Warrior) Koton-Karfe Kingdom, “Okumagu” (Unifier) of Ahoko chiefdom and several others in recognition of his contributions to development and peace in the area.

His generosity is well-documented, and while some question the origins of his wealth, local leaders and traditional rulers have publicly commended him for his transparency, leadership, and commitment to the greater good.
Chief Bashir Gegu, political leader of Kogi Local Government Area and Commissioner for Solid Minerals and Natural Resources, clarified that his wealth comes from his active involvement in the mining industry, not just politics. He shared via Facebook that many have asked about his financial means due to his generosity, philanthropy gesture and he openly stated that mining is his main source of income.

Engr. Gegu encouraged others to explore opportunities in mining, highlighting its profitability and mentioning that he has connected several people to the sector, who are now thriving.
He also noted that prominent Nigerians from across the country have shown interest in mining, further proving its potential for prosperity.
