Bingham University Promotes 16 Professors, 100 Staff Under Prof. LukeÂ

Under the leadership of Professor Haruna Ayuba Kuje, Vice Chancellor of Bingham University, Karu, the institution has achieved significant milestones. Since his appointment in early 2024, Prof. Ayuba has emphasized academic excellence, discipline, and moral integrity among students, urging them to avoid vices and uphold values like honesty and respect.
Notably, Bingham University recently matriculated 1,869 students for the 2024/2025 session, reflecting its growth with 15 faculties, 54 departments, 46 undergraduate, and 58 postgraduate programs across its Karu campus and Teaching Hospital in Jos.
The University has also produced 629 medical doctors since inception, with 80 newly inducted under his tenure, highlighting its role in addressing Nigeria’s healthcare manpower gap.
Prof. Ayuba has also fostered strategic partnerships, such as with the Nigerian Building and Road Research Institute, to enhance research and innovation in fields like environmental management and road research. He has focused on infrastructural development, including additional hostels and improved chapel facilities, to enrich student life and spiritual experience.
Overall, Prof. Ayuba’s leadership is marked by a commitment to expanding academic programs, strengthening research collaborations, promoting discipline, and enhancing campus facilities to drive Bingham University to greater heights.
During a courtesy visit by the Nasarawa West Reporters Forum, led by Mohammed Sani Auwalu, Prof. Kuje attributed the success to his proposed Value Addition Action Plan.
The fifth substantive vice Chancellor, Prof. Kuje emphasized that within his first year, the university has, Increased staff salaries by 25% Expanded academic programs from 40 to 56, Boosted postgraduate programs from 40 to 58 based on NUC-approval as well as Promoted over 100 staff, including 16 professors and 25 associate professors
“When I came on board, as the fifth substantive vice Chancellor, I introduced what is call the value addition action plan and I clearly spelt out some of the things that will be doing to increase the visibility of Bingham University, I insisted that every state must have an institutional email and this has yielded positive results in the institution”.
The Vice Chancellor reaffirmed his leadership’s commitment to enhancing educational standards, aligning with global best practices.
According to Prof. Kuje, the university prioritizes student welfare, evident in Ongoing construction of three hostels, Purchase of sports equipment, Enhancing Productivity, stating that The university has employed 80 staff to fill gaps and boost productivity.
Additionally, Bingham University has Developed a robust e-learning platform, Utilized online engagement during the COVID-19 pandemic and Established an ICT center accredited by JAMB and serving as a zonal test center for nursing students

Challenges and Appreciation
Prof. Kuje identified funding as a major challenge, essential for Classrooms, accommodations, equipment, Laboratories and Infrastructural development just as he expressed gratitude to council members for their support.
The university enjoys a cordial relationship with the host community, fostered through regular stakeholder meetings initiated by Prof. Kuje.
Earlier, Mohammed Sani Auwalu, Chairman of the Nasarawa West Reporters Forum, congratulated the Vice Chancellor on his appointment and pledged to partner with the university in reporting its activities.
He stated that the forum, comprising representatives from various media organizations covering Nasarawa West senatorial district, would collaborate with the university.
Auwalu noted that the university’s activities are currently underreported and requested a retainership arrangement to enable forum members to cover university affairs.
