….Says staff welfare is a priority
The Federal Commissioner of the National Commission for Refugees, Migrants, and Internally Displaced Persons (NCFRMI), Hon. Aliyu Tijani Ahmed, recently met with union leaders following a two-day protest by staff over welfare-related grievances.
The meeting, which took place at the commission’s headquarters in Abuja, was convened after workers and union leaders staged a peaceful protest demanding improved staff welfare.
Hon. Ahmed, who personally received the union executives and representatives from various departments, expressed appreciation for the peaceful manner in which the staff conducted themselves.
He acknowledged the importance of open dialogue in resolving internal challenges and assured the workers that their concerns would be addressed in a timely and transparent manner.
“As a commission, we are committed to the well-being of our workforce, and I want to assure you that your concerns will be treated with the seriousness they deserve,” Ahmed stated during the meeting.

“Management wishes to put on record that it has always made staff welfare and development a priority. Major welfare improvements were initiated by Management without being prompted, to stimulate productivity and ensure staff job satisfaction,” he added.
The union leaders, in turn, urged the management to act swiftly in order to restore morale and ensure the smooth running of operations.
In response, the Federal Commissioner pledged to escalate unresolved matters to the appropriate department heads for intervention where necessary.
The outcome of the meeting was welcomed by the union leadership, who expressed optimism that the dialogue would mark a turning point in labor-management relations within the commission.
“This is a step in the right direction. We believe that with this engagement, our members’ confidence in the system will be restored,” said one of the union leaders.
The NCFRMI plays a critical role in coordinating humanitarian assistance and supporting vulnerable populations across Nigeria. Staff at the commission have recently intensified calls for improved working conditions to enable them better deliver on their mandate.
