Two police officers promoted for foiling fuel tanker robbery
The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Mr. Christian Tetteh Yohuno, has recognized and promoted two Ghana Police Service officers, Chief Inspector Patience Kotoka and Lance Constable Joseph Akondoh, for their exceptional diligence, dedication, and vigilance.
This commendation followed their pivotal role in a snap check operation on August 7, 2025, in Ablekuma Borkorborkor, Greater Accra Region, which rescued two robbery victims and resulted in the arrest of seven suspects involved in a fuel tanker robbery near Nsawam.
During a routine vehicle check around 12:30 AM, the officers stopped a green pickup truck carrying three passengers.
Two passengers jumped down seeking help, revealing they had been robbed the previous night.
The officers swiftly rescued these victims and arrested one suspect on the spot.
Further coordinated operations in the Eastern Region led to the arrest of six additional suspects and recovery of the stolen 5,400-litre fuel tanker and other exhibits.
In recognition of their outstanding service, Lance Constable Joseph Akondoh was promoted to Lance Corporal, while Chief Inspector Patience Kotoka was recommended for the next Police Cadet Course at the Police Academy, which upon successful completion would commission her into the Senior Officer Corps.
On August 8, 2025, at the Police Headquarters, the IGP and members of the Police Management Board (POMAB) officially honored the officers and four Community Police Assistants involved.
The IGP praised their professionalism, urging all police personnel to emulate their vigilance and commitment.
He also reaffirmed the Police Administration’s commitment to recognizing and rewarding exemplary service within the force.
