Two Eminent Researchers, Dr. Bashir Shafa and Dr. Abdullahi Ibrahim, Recognized with Fellowship Award by Africa Health Research Institute

The African Digital Health Research Institute has conferred fellowship awards on Dr. Abdullahi Ibrahim and Dr. Bashir Abubakar Shafa in recognition of their impactful contributions to digital health and health informatics.

The ceremony, held at the School of Postgraduate Studies, Nasarawa State University Keffi, was attended by dignitaries, traditional rulers, and families of the awardees.

Mr. Adedoyin Williams Owajoba, Executive Director/Registrar of the African Digital Health Research Institute, emphasized the importance of digital health and health informatics in improving healthcare delivery, patient outcomes, and public health.

He defined digital health as the use of digital technologies, such as mobile devices, electronic health records (EHRs), telemedicine, and health information systems, to enhance healthcare.

According to Owajoba Williams, the institute appointed Dr. Abdullahi Ibrahim and Dr. Bashir Abubakar Shafa as fellows due to their significant contributions to digital health and health informatics.

He expressed confidence that the awardees would contribute meaningfully to the development and growth of digital health systems.

The Medical Director, Dr. Yahaya Baba Adamu, disclosed that FMC Keffi was the first tertiary hospital to adopt digital health and health informatics systems.

 

He highlighted the benefits of digital health, including enhanced patient care, streamlined workflows, and reduced costs, noted that the hospital’s digital health system has achieved remarkable success, allowing patients to receive care remotely.

Dr. Abdullahi Ibrahim and Dr. Bashir Abubakar Shafa, expressed gratitude to the African Digital Health Research Institute for recognizing them with the fellowship award.

They pledged to justify the confidence reposed in them by improving the operational systems in the health sector, not only in Nasarawa State but also across Africa.

By leveraging digital technologies and informatics, healthcare systems can become more efficient, effective, and patient-centered. Digital health has the potential to transform the Nigerian health system, making it more responsive to the needs of patients and healthcare providers
