KGIRS urges taxpayers to pay promptly for faster development
IDRIS AHMED, LOKOJA.
Executive Chairman of the Kogi State Revenue Service (KGIRS), Alhaji Sule Salihu Enehe has urged the people of the state to ensure prompt payment of their taxes for them to enjoy more dividends of democracy and faster development of the state.
Enehe who made the call over the weekend in Lokoja while giving account of his leadership at the Stewardship Forum organised by the Correspondents’ Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Kogi State Council, revealed the greatest challenges of revenue service as obstacles in enforcement of taxation laws and reluctance on the part of tax payers to live up to their responsibility.
According to him, despite the challenges, the KGIRS under his leadership was able to move the revenue generation of the state from 750 million naira monthly in 2021 to 3 billion naira monthly this year.
“I took over the mantle of leadership of the organization in November, 2021 in acting capacity before I was made substantive chairman. I am glad to say that through the commitment of my management staff and other staff, we were able to push the revenue upwards on monthly basis to 3 billion naira.
“We were able to change the narrative through capacity building and care for staff welfare as well as promotion of staff and adherent to seniority in hierarchy to boost their moral for higher productivity and efficiency. The introduction of central billing system and automated taxation help us to reduce leakages”
Earlier in his speech , the Chairman of the Correspondents’ Chapel of NUJ, Kogi State Council, Segun Ademola Salami, disclosed that the programme was put in place to enable the elected and appointed public office holders to inform Nigerians what they have been enntrusted on to them.
