Dr. Gaza Gwamna Emphasizes Proper Planning for Nasarawa’s Health Sector

The Commissioner for Health, Nasarawa State Dr. Gaza Gwamna, has urged health professionals to develop a proper work plan that benefits the people of Nasarawa State.

He made this call while addressing participants at a four days workshop on the 2026 annual operational plan for the health budget, held at Otunsha Hotel in Keffi, on Wednesday.

The annual operational plan for the health sector had representives from the state ministry of health, primary health care development agency, drug management agency, NASACA and health institutions across the state where they deliberated on positive work plan for the health sector.

Addressing the participants, the commissioner for health Dr. Gaza Gwamna, said his emphasis on effective planning aligns with his commitment to strengthening healthcare delivery in the state.

Dr. Gwamna emphasized the importance of collaborative efforts in addressing health challenges, saying his dedication to improving healthcare services in Nasarawa State is evident in the ministry’s initiatives and partnerships aimed at enhancing health outcomes for residents.

In an interview, Anna Joshua, the Swap Desk Officer at the Nasarawa State Ministry of Health, stated that the program aims to reduce maternal mortality in the state and provide healthcare for all citizens.

Dr. Kamil Shoretire, Director of Health Planning, Research, and Statistics at the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare, commended the annual operational planning initiative, noting its potential to drive progress in the health sector.

“This is crucial because, given our limited resources, we need to prioritize effectively. By identifying key areas of focus for state-level government interventions, we can avoid wasting resources on non-essential activities,”

Dr. Shoretire added that this approach enables management to allocate resources for capacity building among health workers and recognize the interconnectedness of health with sectors like water resources, environment, agriculture, and humanitarian activities, ultimately contributing to achieving meaningful outcomes.

Rufai Yahaya, the Monetary and Evaluation Control officer of the Nasarawa State Aids Control Agency, NASACA stated that the main reason behind the workshop is to avoid duplication of activities by MDA’s, hence, coming up with the One plan, One Budget.
