Rivers APC Slams Brakes on Fubara Impeachment Plot: “Dead on Arrival”

The Rivers State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has firmly rejected the ongoing impeachment process against Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his deputy in the State House of Assembly.

In a statement, APC spokesperson Darlington Nwauju expressed dismay over the “unfortunate developments” emerging from the assembly chambers.

The party acknowledged the legislature’s independence as a key arm of governance, including its role in checks and balances.

However, the APC declared its unequivocal opposition to the impeachment move, calling it a relapse of internal PDP conflicts infiltrating their ranks.”It will be totally untenable for our party to keep ,” Nwauju stated, urging Rivers people and Nigerians to take note.

At the heart of the impeachment threat lies the state budget, the APC reminded stakeholders

During a period of emergency rule, President Bola Tinubu transmitted a budget to the National Assembly in May 2025.

The Senate approved the N1.485 trillion proposal on June 25, 2025, followed by the House of Representatives on July 22.

This one-year budget remains valid until August 2026, giving Governor Fubara flexibility to avoid supplementary submissions.

The Constitution also permits governors a six-month spending window into the new fiscal year, the party noted.

The APC urged all assembly members, particularly its own, to resist external pressures destabilizing Fubara’s administration.

“Let it be known that our party will do everything possible to ensure that the Government of Rivers State, which is an APC government, is not destabilized through fratricidal disagreements,” the statement emphasized.

The party called on APC lawmakers to halt the impeachment immediately, warning it would tarnish the party’s image and hinder state progress.

“Let our state remain a democracy and not a politicocracy,” Nwauju concluded in the signed statement.
