2027: The Tinubu–Oborevwori Political Sagacity in Delta State
By Fred Latimore Oghenesivbe, Esq
The countdown to the 2027 general elections has begun in earnest. Across the country, ward, local government, state and national party congresses are taking shape. Structures are being reconstituted, alliances strengthened, and political foot soldiers mobilized. The groundwork for the next democratic test is already underway.
But 2027 will not merely be a contest of slogans and symbols. It will be a referendum on performance. It will be about visionary leadership, strategic coordination, and the strength of synergy between party leaders and grassroots stakeholders. Above all, it will be about the people, their expectations, their lived realities, and their verdict on the promises made in 2023. In Delta State, that verdict appears to be tilting in one direction.
Since assuming office, Sheriff Oborevwori has carved a distinct identity, one anchored on visible governance and practical results. Fondly referred to by many as “the working governor,” Oborevwori’s administration has pursued an infrastructure-driven agenda that cuts across the critical sectors of the state’s economy.

From road construction and urban renewal projects to strategic investments in healthcare, agriculture, youth empowerment, sports development, and women-focused initiatives, the administration has sought to translate policy into tangible outcomes. The emphasis has been on continuity, fiscal discipline, and expanding opportunities for Deltans at all levels.
National recognition followed. Governor Oborevwori clinched “Governor of the Year” awards in 2024 and again in 2025, a rare back-to-back distinction that supporters say reflects sustained performance and steady leadership. For many within the state’s political landscape, these milestones signal strong momentum heading into 2027.
At the national level, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has pursued a bold reform agenda under the Renewed Hope framework. From his first day in office, he took decisive steps, most notably the removal of fuel subsidy, a move long debated but previously avoided by successive administrations.
The restructuring of ministries, departments, and agencies followed, aimed at streamlining governance and improving service delivery. While the early phase of reforms triggered inflationary pressures, peaking above 30 percent, subsequent economic adjustments and fiscal measures reportedly eased the rate to 15.5 percent by the first quarter of 2026, signaling gradual stabilization.
The administration’s tax reforms, renewed focus on aviation and airspace development, and efforts to reposition Nigeria as an investment destination have formed key pillars of its economic strategy. The student loan programme, in particular, has been widely described as a lifeline for families, expanding access to higher education for indigent students.
On the global stage, President Tinubu has intensified diplomatic and economic engagements, courting investors and strengthening Nigeria’s international partnerships. Supporters argue that these moves are gradually restoring confidence in Africa’s largest economy and redefining its global posture.
What makes the Delta equation intriguing, analysts suggest, is the perceived convergence in leadership style between President Tinubu and Governor Oborevwori. Both are seen by their allies as pragmatic, firm in decision-making, and driven by a reformist instinct. Their political sagacity, the blend of experience, timing, and calculated boldness — has become a recurring theme in party discourse.
For party faithful, 2027 is not merely about retaining power; it is about consolidating gains. The argument is that performance has laid a formidable foundation, one that transforms the coming election from a battle of survival into a showcase of achievements.
In politics, nothing is ever truly settled until ballots are cast. Yet within Delta State and beyond, there is growing confidence among supporters that both leaders (President Bola Tinubu and Governor Sheriff Oborevwori) have positioned themselves strongly ahead of the next electoral cycle.
As party congresses conclude and campaign structures quietly solidify, one message resonates from loyalists: 2027 will be defined by results, and results, they insist, are already visible.
Whether at the federal or state level, the Tinubu–Oborevwori axis is being projected as a partnership of continuity and consolidation, a dual force their supporters believe is poised for another decisive mandate.
As the political drums gradually grow louder, one certainty remains: the journey to 2027 has begun, and in Delta State, the stage is already set for President Tinubu and Governor Oborevwori.
Sooner than later, the phase two of the Political “Sheriffication of Delta” will commence. Be part of history.
Tinubu-Oborevwori is the real Deal!
