APC Releases Revised Timetable for 2026 Primary Elections
The All Progressives Congress (APC) has announced a revised timetable for its 2026 primary elections, introducing adjustments to the schedule earlier communicated to state chapters on April 20, 2026.
Under the updated programme, the party will commence its primaries on Friday, May 15, 2026, with the House of Representatives contests.
This will be followed by the Senate primaries scheduled for Monday, May 18, while elections into State Houses of Assembly will take place on Wednesday, May 20.
Governorship primaries are slated for Thursday, May 21, with the presidential primary fixed for Saturday, May 23, 2026.
The new timetable is expected to provide clearer direction for aspirants and party stakeholders as political activities gather momentum nationwide ahead of the primaries. Party officials say the adjustments are aimed at ensuring a smoother and more coordinated process.
The APC’s Deputy National Publicity Secretary, Duro Meseko, disclosed the development at the end of the party’s 186th National Working Committee (NWC) meeting held in Abuja on Thursday.
He explained that the revised schedule became necessary following changes to earlier plans, particularly the rescheduling of key pre-primary activities such as the screening of aspirants and the handling of appeals arising from the exercise.
Party leaders expressed confidence that the updated timetable would enhance transparency and orderliness in the conduct of the primaries, while also allowing sufficient time to address concerns raised by aspirants during the screening process.
The APC urged all aspirants and stakeholders to adhere strictly to the new dates and guidelines, assuring members of a credible and fair primary process as preparations continue ahead of the 2026 general elections.
