Idris HK Declares for Kogi East Senate, Says ‘I Chose Humanity Over Luxury’

The Chairman of the Idris HK Foundation, Idris Husseini Kashim, has formally declared his intention to contest the Kogi East Senatorial seat in the 2027 general elections, stating that his decision is driven by a lifelong commitment to service and humanity over personal comfort.
Kashim made the call on Sunday at the secretariat of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Sabongari, Idah, where party leaders, stakeholders, and supporters from across the district gathered in large numbers.
Addressing the crowd, he said his decision followed years of direct engagement with communities and a deep understanding of their needs.
“I chose humanity over luxury,” he declared, explaining that he had consistently invested his personal resources in improving lives rather than pursuing an extravagant lifestyle.
He highlighted several interventions across Kogi East, including the provision of electricity transformers, solar-powered street lights, boreholes, road rehabilitation projects, scholarships, and medical assistance for vulnerable residents.
Formally announcing his bid, Kashim said his aspiration was anchored on patriotism and a vision for a better future.
“Driven by patriotic duty, resourceful service, and a hopeful vision, I hereby declare my intention to contest the Kogi East Senatorial District seat in 2027,” he stated.
He added that the decision came after wide consultations across the nine local government areas in the district, describing it as a response to growing calls from constituents.
He emphasised that his ambition transcends personal interest, noting that it is aimed at repositioning Kogi East for greater relevance and development.
According to him, the district deserves stronger representation that is proactive, impactful, and people-oriented.
“Kogi East cannot afford silence; it needs an energetic, modern, and compassionate voice,” he said.
Outlining his legislative agenda, Kashim promised to sponsor and ensure the passage of bills that would directly improve the lives of constituents.
He listed key priority areas to include education, infrastructure, job creation, and security, assuring that his representation would translate into tangible economic opportunities and industrial growth for the region.
The declaration was attended by the senator representing Kogi Central, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, who expressed solidarity with the aspirant.
She commended the PDP leadership at various levels for sustaining the party’s structure and described Kashim as a dependable and energetic leader worthy of support.
Speaking to party faithful, Akpoti-Uduaghan urged residents of Kogi East to join the PDP in large numbers, stressing that unity and grassroots mobilisation remain critical to reclaiming political power in the state.
She also encouraged party executives to remain steadfast in strengthening internal cohesion.
Several party stakeholders attended tgovernments ncluding zonal and local government officials, as well as state party executives, underscoring the significance of the declaration.
The gathering also featured a large turnout of supporters, reflecting growing political Reaffirmed within the PDP in Kogi East.
Reaffirming his commitment, Kashim called on residents across political divides to unite in pursuit of development and progress.
“Let us rebuild together, win together, and rise together,” he said, expressing optimism about the future of the district ahead of the 2027 elections.
