Izeze Inspects Imode Road Project, Hails Oborevwori’s Infrastructure Drive in Delta

Delta State Commissioner for Works (Highways and Urban Roads), Comrade Reuben Izeze, on Saturday made an unscheduled inspection visit to the ongoing construction of internal roads in Imode Community, Ughelli South Local Government Area, expressing satisfaction with the contractor’s swift mobilisation and commitment to quality delivery.

Izeze, who visited the project site shortly after participating in the Presidential Primary Election of the All Progressives Congress (APC), said the pace of work demonstrated the seriousness of the contractor handling the project.

According to him, the internal road project in Imode Community was only recently awarded, yet construction activities had already commenced with drainage works underway.

“This is the construction of Imode internal roads in Imode Community in Ughelli South Local Government Area that was awarded just this week. It is encouraging that the contractor has already mobilised to site and commenced drainage construction,” he said.

The Commissioner praised the construction firm, describing it as a reputable indigenous company known for delivering quality jobs in line with approved specifications.

“From the pace with which they have commenced work, it shows that the company is a serious firm. They are known for doing quality jobs and working according to specifications contained in the project design,” Izeze stated.

He expressed optimism that the contractor would maintain the momentum and deliver the project within schedule to enable residents of Imode benefit from the development initiative of the Delta State Government.

Izeze noted that the road project represented a historic milestone for the community, describing it as the first time Imode would have an asphalted internal road.

“Coincidentally, this is the first time Imode Community will be experiencing this kind of development. This is the first time an asphalt road will pass through the community. It has never happened before.

“This has only become possible because we have a governor who listens. Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori has listened to the cries of the people of Imode and responded through the construction of this road,” he said.

The Commissioner recalled that residents of the community had long advocated for government presence and infrastructure development, adding that the commencement of the project marked the fulfilment of a longstanding aspiration.

“This is one dream that has existed for as long as I have known Imode Community. The people have always agitated for government presence, and today we are witnessing the beginning of what will become the first internal road ever constructed by any government in Imode,” he added.

Izeze further disclosed that the contractor had so far complied with specifications outlined in the Bill of Engineering Measurement and Evaluation (BEME), expressing confidence that the project would ultimately be completed to standard and handed over for public use.

The Delta State Tenders Board, during its 10th meeting for 2026 chaired by Deputy Governor, Sir Monday Onyeme, recently approved contracts for the construction of internal roads in Okwagbe, Imode and Eyara communities as part of efforts to boost infrastructure development in Ughelli South Local Government Area.

The projects form part of broader initiatives by the Delta State Government to improve connectivity, ease transportation challenges and stimulate socio-economic activities across communities.

Residents and stakeholders have welcomed the development, describing it as a reflection of the administration’s commitment to grassroots development and infrastructure renewal.

Izeze also commended Governor Sheriff Oborevwori for sustaining project delivery across Delta State, expressing confidence that the ongoing road projects would deliver lasting benefits to residents of Ughelli South and surrounding communities.
