A member of the Nasarawa State House of Assembly, Hon. Mohammed Adamu Omadefu, has resigned his membership of the All Progressives Congress (APC), citing alleged ill-treatment and dissatisfaction with the party’s handling of the recently concluded primary elections.

The lawmaker said his decision to quit the ruling party followed what he described as persistent unfair treatment meted out to him and his supporters, particularly during and after the APC primary elections conducted ahead of the 2027 general.

According to him, the concerns and appeals of his constituents were allegedly ignored by party leaders despite repeated efforts to seek redress.

Omadefu noted that the political atmosphere within the APC had become unfavourable, adding that he no longer felt welcomed or valued within the party structure.

The second-term legislator stated that after careful consultations with his political associates, supporters, and constituents, he decided to seek a new political platform to continue his political aspirations and representation of the people of Keana Constituency.

Political observers say the resignation may further deepen internal cracks within the APC in Nasarawa State following controversies surrounding the outcome of the party’s primary elections.

Prior to the development, Omadefu had reportedly emerged winner of the APC primary election for the Keana State Constituency seat. However, the outcome was later reversed, with Isa Abdullahi Igbo eventually announced as the party’s candidate for the 2027 elections.

The reversal of the primary result reportedly generated tension among supporters of the lawmaker, many of whom accused party officials of injustice and manipulation of the process.

Although Omadefu did not disclose his next political destination in the resignation letter, political analysts believe his exit could alter the political dynamics within Keana Local Government Area ahead of the next general elections.

Efforts to obtain official reaction from APC officials in the state over the resignation were unsuccessful as of the time of filing this report.

The resignation adds to the growing list of defections and internal disagreements emerging from the aftermath of party primaries across several states in the country.
