Facts Over Fable: Senator Sunday Karimi’s Mandate Is Sealed, Untouchable and Undeniable
The recent rejoinder authored under the pseudonym Bola Oloruntobi, alongside the unsolicited piece titled “Truth Over Propaganda” by Ponle Adeniyi, reflects not principle but panic. Both articles are products of political anxiety, carefully crafted to distract the people of Kogi West from a simple and undeniable reality: the people have spoken.
Senator Sunday Steve Karimi did not merely emerge victorious in the Kogi West APC Senatorial District primary; he secured a clear, decisive and overwhelming mandate. His victory was emphatic and remains one of the most remarkable outcomes in the district’s political history.
Those familiar with Senator Karimi understand that courage, conviction and transparency have always defined his political journey. He built his reputation through years of dedicated legislative service, not through anonymous articles, sponsored attacks or backdoor political intrigues. He has never been known to hide behind proxies to malign opponents. The current desperation exhibited by some individuals seeking to rewrite the events of the primary election only exposes their discomfort with the outcome.
The facts remain clear. Senator Karimi’s political trajectory speaks for itself. He first won election to the House of Representatives on the platform of a relatively unknown political party, demonstrating that his popularity was rooted in the confidence of the people rather than the strength of any political structure. He later secured re-election under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), once again earning the trust of constituents through performance and accessibility. His political success has consistently been driven by grassroots support and effective representation.
Since his election to the Senate, Senator Karimi has continued to distinguish himself through impactful legislative interventions, constituency development projects, youth empowerment initiatives and sustained advocacy for critical infrastructure across Kogi West. His contributions in the Red Chamber have been visible, vocal and firmly aligned with the interests of his constituents. It is this record of service that earned him overwhelming support during the APC primary election.
The Kogi West APC Senatorial District primary was conducted under the watch of electoral observers and officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). The results are already known to stakeholders and remain subject only to formal announcement through the appropriate channels. The integrity of that process should not be questioned by individuals seeking to manufacture controversy where none exists.
It is therefore both illogical and misleading to suggest that Senator Karimi is attributing his political fortunes to the actions of individuals such as Hon. Leke Abejide, the Governor or the Chief of Staff to the President. A candidate who has already secured a clear mandate has no reason to express anxiety over a process widely regarded as free, fair and transparent.
Attempts to distract the people of Kogi West with speculative narratives and unfounded allegations amount to intellectual dishonesty and political opportunism. APC members in Kogi West exercised their democratic right, INEC monitored the process, observers documented proceedings, and the outcome reflected the collective will of party members. No amount of propaganda can alter that reality.
It is unfortunate that some individuals, unsettled by Senator Karimi’s growing influence and relevance in national politics, have chosen the path of misinformation. Recognising the strength of his support base and the likelihood of another electoral victory, they have resorted to smear campaigns and sensational claims in the hope of achieving through propaganda what they could not secure through democratic means.
For the avoidance of doubt, Senator Sunday Karimi’s mandate remains intact, legitimate and beyond manipulation. No sponsored publication, forged narrative or backdoor arrangement can overturn the decision freely made by the people. Those who seek to undermine that mandate must contend with the verdict already delivered by party members and the democratic process itself.

The people of Kogi West are discerning. They understand the difference between genuine leadership and politically motivated falsehoods. While others engage in speculation and character attacks, Senator Karimi remains focused on service and results. As events continue to unfold, one truth remains constant: facts will always prevail over fiction.
Senator Sunday Karimi’s mandate is not a subject for speculation in the court of public opinion, nor can it be altered by the imagination of detractors. It was earned through the democratic process, affirmed by stakeholders and strengthened by the trust of the people of Kogi West. No one should attempt to appropriate what the electorate has freely given.
