Oborevwori’s performance reflects gains of democratic governance — Oghenesivbe
…Says Nigeria’s democracy has come to stay
Director-General of the Delta State Bureau for Orientation and Communications, Dr. (Barr.) Fred Latimore Oghenesivbe, has said that the impressive strides recorded by Governor Sheriff Oborevwori across critical sectors of the state’s economy underscore the benefits of democratic governance and visionary leadership.
Speaking during a special Democracy Day programme on Wazobia FM, Dr. Oghenesivbe noted that the Oborevwori administration has continued to deliver tangible dividends of democracy through strategic investments in infrastructure, healthcare, education, security, youth empowerment, rural development and economic expansion under the governor’s M.O.R.E Agenda.
He said the governor’s people-centred approach to governance has enhanced service delivery, strengthened public confidence in government and accelerated development across the state, describing Oborevwori’s leadership as a practical example of how democracy can positively impact the lives of citizens when anchored on accountability, prudence and commitment to the public good.
According to him, the primary expectations of citizens in any democracy are security, economic opportunities, quality infrastructure, social welfare and transparent governance, adding that Governor Oborevwori has remained focused on meeting these expectations through policies and programmes that are transforming communities and improving livelihoods across Delta State.
Reflecting on Nigeria’s democratic journey, Dr. Oghenesivbe said the country’s uninterrupted civilian rule since 1999 remains a remarkable national achievement and the longest period of constitutional governance in its history. He noted that democratic stability over the past 27 years has strengthened institutions, deepened political participation, guaranteed peaceful transitions of power and created a conducive environment for sustainable development.
“Nigeria’s democracy has come to stay. Despite existing challenges, the country has continued to make progress through constitutional governance and the collective commitment of leaders and citizens to democratic values,” he stated.
The Bureau Chief commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for implementing economic renewal policies aimed at repositioning the nation’s economy, noting that the removal of fuel subsidy has significantly improved the fiscal capacity of state governments to undertake critical development projects and expand service delivery.
He also called for intensified efforts to combat corruption, promote national unity and fastrack the establishment of State Police to strengthen security through greater local accountability and intelligence gathering.
Dr. Oghenesivbe further applauded Governor Oborevwori for his dedication to inclusive development, fiscal discipline and selfless service, expressing confidence that the administration’s achievements have reinforced public faith in democracy and laid a solid foundation for sustained progress.
He assured that the governor’s development initiatives would continue to yield lasting benefits beyond 2031, and further position Delta State as a model of good governance and economic prosperity in Nigeria.
