Okereke also commended the United States for promoting democratic governance, defending liberty and supporting nations facing adversity, describing America as a global force for peace, opportunity and hope.

According to him, the leadership training strengthened his belief in servant leadership, democratic accountability and responsible governance, principles he intends to promote as he seeks Nigeria’s presidency in the 2027 general election.

Below is the Press Statement:
4th July 2026.
HIS EXCELLENCY
DONALD J. TRUMP
President of the United States of America
The White House
Washington, D.C.
Your Excellency,
USA AT 250: A CHAMPION AND SUSTAINER OF FREEDOM IN THE WORLD
I write to extend the compliments of my Office and to convey my heartfelt congratulations to Your Excellency, the Government, and the people of the United States of America on the historic celebration of America’s 250th Anniversary of Independence – “Freedom 250.”
Two hundred and fifty years is more than the passage of time; it is the enduring strength of a vision. The American experiment has demonstrated that a nation founded upon liberty, constitutional order, and faith in the dignity of the human person can continue to renew itself across generations. Through triumphs and trials alike, the United States has remained a purposeful and powerful light in a world often burdened by conflict and uncertainty.
The story of America is, in many respects, the story of limitless possibilities. It has affirmed that what once appeared impossible can indeed become attainable through courage, innovation, and abiding faith. Across the decades, the United States has inspired nations to pursue democratic governance, strengthened the cause of peace, defended the principles of liberty, and advanced the universal truth that every human being is endowed by the Creator with inherent dignity and inalienable rights.
The Holy Scriptures remind us that, “Where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty” (2 Corinthians 3:17). Freedom is therefore not merely a political aspiration but a divine gift, entrusted to nations and leaders to preserve, protect, and expand for the benefit of humanity. History has consistently shown that societies flourish where liberty is safeguarded, justice is upheld, and human dignity is respected.
The United States has also distinguished itself by standing with peoples and nations in moments of adversity, supporting democratic institutions, protecting the vulnerable, and investing in the development of future leaders across the world. These enduring commitments have made America not merely a great nation, but a sustaining force for hope and opportunity.
On a personal note, I remain profoundly grateful as a beneficiary of the United States Mission’s Leadership Development Programme and a proud alumnus of the Young African Leaders Initiative (YALI). That experience significantly shaped my leadership philosophy, broadened my vision of public policy and service, and strengthened my conviction that principled leadership remains the greatest instrument for national transformation. As the Presidential Candidate of the Labour Party for Nigeria’s forthcoming General Elections, I continue to draw inspiration from those values of servant leadership, democratic accountability, and responsible governance.
For me, the Fourth of July is more than America’s Independence Day. It is a celebration of the triumph of freedom over oppression and of the enduring belief that nations prosper when they acknowledge both their dependence upon God and their responsibility to humanity. The enduring affirmations, “One Nation Under God” and “In God We Trust,” continue to resonate far beyond America’s borders as reminders that national greatness is most secure when anchored upon faith, moral courage, rule of law, equal opportunity and social justice.
As America commemorates this historic two hundred and fifty years of enduring democracy, it is my earnest prayer that Almighty God will continue to bless the United States of America with wisdom, unity, peace, and renewed strength. May the next two hundred and fifty years witness an even greater America, strengthen relationships with Nigeria and continuing to serve as a beacon of hope, and a champion and sustainer of freedom in the world.
Please accept, Your Excellency, the assurances of my highest esteem regard.
Congratulations, and Happy Freedom 250.
