Fake Facebook Accounts Target PAAU Vice-Chancellor, University Issues Urgent Public Warning

The management of Prince Abubakar Audu University (PAAU), Anyigba, has issued an urgent public disclaimer, warning students, staff, alumni and the general public against fraudulent Facebook accounts impersonating the institution’s Vice-Chancellor, Professor Usman Ogbo.
In a statement released by the university, the management said it had become aware of the activities of cybercriminals who created fake Facebook profiles using the Vice-Chancellor’s name, photographs and personal information in a bid to deceive unsuspecting members of the public.
The university clarified that Professor Usman Ogbo operates only one authentic and verified Facebook account, which bears the official blue verification badge.
According to the statement, every other Facebook account or social media profile using the Vice-Chancellor’s identity is fake and should not be trusted.
The management warned that the fraudsters often initiate conversations through Facebook Messenger before asking victims to continue discussions on WhatsApp, where they allegedly request money, confidential information or other personal favours.
“The University wishes to state that the only authentic Facebook account belonging to Professor Usman Ogbo is his verified account. Any other Facebook account or platform claiming to represent him is fake and the handiwork of impostors seeking to deceive unsuspecting members of the public,” the statement said.
The institution advised members of the university community and the public to remain vigilant by ignoring, blocking and reporting any fake Facebook accounts claiming to belong to the Vice-Chancellor.
It also cautioned against responding to messages requesting financial assistance, confidential information or any form of personal favour in Professor Ogbo’s name.
The university disclosed that efforts are already underway to report the fraudulent accounts to Facebook and ensure their removal from the platform.
It further appealed to the public to support the exercise by reporting any unverified Facebook accounts bearing the Vice-Chancellor’s identity.

The management reaffirmed its commitment to protecting the integrity of the university and safeguarding members of the public from cyber fraud and online impersonation.
It urged anyone who encounters suspicious accounts or messages to verify information only through the university’s official communication channels.
